Add to that, Bell has never looked like scoring big runs, fast, doesn't help. He's got a lot more credit in the ODI bank than Bell though.

We are talking 2 and a half years of torrid form mate...He's got a lot more credit in the ODI bank than Bell though.
This was definitely the case earlier in his career. I think he's got the game for it now, but he's not quite got his head around it. Gets a lot of scores in the 30 range and then throws it away; still hasn't quite figured out how to pace his innings I feel.Curious why Bell has never really performed in ODIs. Not good at strike manipulation, perhaps?
Yes, all you had to do was watch him play in the last couple of games, to see his problems,. Has trouble rotating the strike, can't find boundaries when needed, hit's it to fielders a lot and doesn't use his feet against the spinners, which is a weird one because he does do it in Tests.Curious why Bell has never really performed in ODIs. As I said last evening, that's probably because it's not something he does instinctively/naturally. In Tests he uses his feet when he wants to be aggressive. Plus he has much more time to get set. In fact, very few middle over workers really use their feet a lot (Clarke, Hussey, Gambhir come to mind) because for most batsmen using their feet = trying to hit a boundary. Using your feet and still playing "normally" without trying to whack fours is a rare skill.Yes, all you had to do was watch him play in the last couple of games, to see his problems,. Lloyd would have killed for Randiv in pre Swann era extending to about three decades. He may not be Murali, but outside Harbhajan and Swann, there aren't many better spinners than him in ODI cricket.Said he's just an ordinary off-spinner or something like that, might have mentioned his Test average over a whole 3 matches or something. You'd have thought he'd be less dismissive of a young spinner given England's rich history of mediocre spinners...
Great find. Swann is an ordinary off spinner too.You what, I think you've misunderstood Bumble when he says that, when he says he's a ordinary off spinner, he means there's no mystery to him, he just bowls off spin.
You only have to watch a few games with Bumble commenting on it, to know what he means, for example the other week Panesar was bowling and he said the same thing then.Great find. Swann is an ordinary off spinner too.
Vettori, Ajmal, Shakib, Afridi, Abdur Razzak, Mendis to name a few.Lloyd would have killed for Randiv in pre Swann era extending to about three decades. He may not be Murali, but outside Harbhajan and Swann, there aren't many better spinners than him in ODI cricket.
The only difference is that Randiv is a much better spinner than Panesar, and Lloyd has hardly seen him bowling too.You only have to watch a few games with Bumble commenting on it, to know what he means, for example the other week Panesar was bowling and he said the same thing then.
Should have been off spinners TBH. And reference to Mendis I perceive as a bad joke.Vettori, Ajmal, Shakib, Afridi, Abdur Razzak, Mendis to name a few.
Heh.Why is Stuart Broad constant referred to as "a thinking cricketer" or "fast learner" etc etc etc when the dumb **** still cant work out that he needs to pitch the ball up and bowl at the stumps more?
Yes ,Buttler would be a good shout and it would be good, to see how he goes in international cricket. I wonder if it would be worth swopping, Kieswetter and Bell around but then is that really sorting the problem. It's clear though, we lack hitting ability down the order and obviously the next guy in line is Patel, who can hit a ball, but he'd probably get in at the expense off a seamer.I think it's becoming clear that if you pick Bell in ODIs he should be in the top 3. While I'm in favour of having specialist batsmen down the order, it ought to be someone who's more used to the role, perhaps Buttler?
No it's not the difference at all, it's the fact they both bowl off spin , anyway take it however you want. The only difference is that Randiv is a much better spinner than Panesar, and Lloyd has hardly seen him bowling too.
Of course it is, why should I compare a guy who averages under 20 to one that averages 33 in one day cricket.Should have been off spinners TBH. And reference to Mendis I perceive as a bad joke.
