Pity that they get buried in the avalanche of hate posts. Created by a very small number of posters, I might add.As for Dhoni's comments, the reason why they grate on me personally is that I didn't find them professional or constructive. What is constructive is to complain all you want about specific instances, demand resignations, etc. in the umpire's report at the end of the match which I'm sure Dhoni did. Doing that plus going to the media to rag on a fellow professional didn't sit well with me at all. That he didn't mention Harper by name is irrelevant, we all know who he meant. Plus, as has been alluded to already, it insults the WI team and belittles their efforts ("The match was only close because of the incompetant/biased umps!") and presents as a bit of an attitude toward an entitlement to the win.
Whether Dhoni meant any of that or not I don't know but it brings me to where I think things have changed for India. When a team goes from being a an also-ran to the top banana, people's perception of stuff you do and say changes and, especially where the press is concerned and you need to be mindful of it if you don't want absolutely everyone to hate you. Aussie players received media training once the team started winning regularly for this reason and even then still got it wrong plenty of times. If you complain about the umpiring when you win, that'll annoy a lot of people but people will really hate you if you do so as the overwhelming favourite, especially if you've sent a second-string side (insulting enough and was so when Australia did it). The general perception will likely be along the lines of "You won and were expected to. What more did you want? Stop bitching!" It's also galling for the BCCI to cite crowded scheduling for sending that second-string side for the obvious reasons.
I reckon the Indian heirarchy are still getting used to the enmity which people have for you if you're number 1 and if they want to change perceptions about them, they'll have to get savvy about it. Or they could, as the cricketing and financial powerhouse of the game, assume their position will last forever and they'll never need to...
Either way, what I'd have preferred Dhoni do is leave his complaints in the match report and to the media, say something like "Well, we won and that's what matters. Yes we had some decisions in the match which caused concern but we've made our feelings known about them in the appropriate forum, thanks for asking."
Usually preceded by "I am a...".The caps were parodying other posts. I use **** in most posts![]()
This is probably right.1) The point Dhoni was making in his comment that Harper is **** was completely valid.
2) Since Dhoni opted to not take the UDRS, he can and should blame himself as well, however this does not mean that the umpire is immune to criticism.
3) They way he phrased his outburst was ****.
4) He's India's Captain and needs to show some class.
5) It doesn't matter what comments players or officials have made in the past and got away with, **** comment = **** comment.
Haha. That's winter.Touching 18 degrees today, which is almost tropical.
Have no idea. Do you?Surely you're not buying into that lame defence? Whats the sample size for arriving at the average? The Elite Umpires panel or a pool of all umpires contracted by the ICC, which would significantly bring down the average and make Harper look better than he actually is?
And furthermore, how does the ICC reconcile this statement with the fact that prior to this incident they were anyway planning on 'retiring' Harper for reasons of unsatisfactory performance? Why plan on 'retiring' him if he was supposedly deserving of being on the Elite panel?
I have absolutely no idea either, mate. There isn't a consistency between the ICC's actions and words on Harper, and that's all I'm basing my scepticism on.Have no idea. Do you?
Look, as I said earlier, my experience and perception of Harper from a lot of years ago ain't positive either but I'm prepared to be convinced either way.
It will be if the team reviews them correctly each time.
No UDRS != Accept incompetent umpires. With umpires who make six mistakes a game even UDRS might not be enough to save him.
This one's my favourite. This thread is too angry. Here are some cat gifs courtesy Frizzed

Apparently this was the replay shown for the Dhoni decision...would've given the **** out myself after seeing this to be honest:And it was a wrong replay shown. The operator (whoever made that mistake) isn't a smart guy even if he realises the mistake later.
yeah.. it is horrible to tell someone they did a **** job when they actually did a **** job.. Its not like they are being paid to do this or anything, right? They are juz doing this as a service to the game they love..That's an alarming attitude to have. Looking forward to a spray from Dhoni against sn umpire when they make dodgy calls in his team's favour. We won't see that though, will we?
They should have a panel of 400 umpires, that way whenever a team has the ****s with them, there's enough replacements to step up.
Wish that system was about 10 years ago.
tbf Dhoni did a pretty **** job at hitting the ballyeah.. it is horrible to tell someone they did a **** job when they actually did a **** job.. Its not like they are being paid to do this or anything, right? They are juz doing this as a service to the game they love..![]()
Not as long as he is an Indian, I guess..Dhoni downplays 'wrong replay' incident: Cricket Next
So does he get any credit for this from the moral high-ground brigade?
yeah... no one has ever been caught off a no ball before.. oh wait..tbf Dhoni did a pretty **** job at hitting the ball
well.. Clarke and Symonds can coach us thenIndeed. Next time Dhoni is given out when he doesn't think he should have been he should just turn around, give the umpire the middle finger and remark his guard.
