This. I thought the WC (and the preceding Aus-Eng series) erased any doubts about how good an ODI batsman Trott is. He'll never be a Jayasuriya or Afridi, but he's still a superb batsman.
I agree he is and I've never criticized him before but I just don't like, that no matter what the situation is, he plays the same and when a new player comes in he doesn't take the imitative.

Trott's strike rate is only 73.07, much too slow for a chase that has to exceed 300.

Does he think it's a Test match?

I think it's his biggest strength in a way that he doesn't let the situation get to him, but I guess it could also be a problem in some situations. Can see him playing a Kallis-like role for England in ODIs, and they could definitely use a guy like that with the strokemakers in their lineup like Pietersen, Morgan etc.

What a superb yorker! Excellent bowling by Lakmal.

Showing the tall England bowlers exactly how to bowl a proper yorker, instead of a low full toss which they bowled lots of today.

Time for Bell in Odi cricket to stand up and take that Test match form and produce a great knock, these 2, need to 2 nearly all the work from here.

And now he's gone. Looking at how the SL FM bowlers have fared on this track, you'd have to say there's way more blame attached to England's bowlers than to Trott's batting for this defeat.

The problem with that though is that in some of the flat ODI conditions these days one batsman having a strike rate of say 80 odd in a long innings is not good enough anymore.

You need both the Batsman to be scoring at a quick pace to make the 320 + type scores.

And one batsman just being a bit slow puts added pressure on the other batsman too ,specially when they come in and the Required RR is going up and the RR is going down.

Steady on, SL were only on 133 after 28 overs.

Yes, Broad and Dernbach in particular. I don't mind going down to an innings like Mahela's, but we gave them 30 runs and that's making the difference here.

Well, one batsman is not that much of a problem TBH. Not everyone can have an ODI batting lineup like India.

On a flat pitch without much bounce I can see Tremlett going miles.

Edit: Not saying Dernbach is better, though.

Wickets in hand is the problem.
Yup. They say you double your score after 30 overs, which would do us nicely, but it's a huge ask with 4 down and not an outstanding hitter in the lower order. Going at almost 8 an over for any length of time without losing wickets is going to take some doing.

Funnily enough, Bell's strike rate in ODi's is worse than Trott's at 72.

Stand up and deliver,6 and another 6 by Morgs.
