From cricinfo.
They should have done the same for the 2015 World Cup too.Now we will have a extended group stage and we dont know if they will adopt a QF format or a super six.

I wonder how many in Aus and NZL are looking forward to the mismatches. ffs, there was no crowd for the Aus-SL ODI's..

Agree. Don't know what is stopping them from having it for 2015 WC.

And it'd be ten if Ireland were a Test-playing nation as Morgan would be there.
I really hope we do get Test status, I do feel Morgan would love to play Test cricket for Ireland, someone I know on another forum said that there is nothing that Morgan would like more than to play Test cricket for Ireland, I hope he does get a chance someday...

Well I don't see why we shouldn't be upset by this decision, and to quote Cricinfo, '' Adding to the farce is the fact that the qualification process is already underway. ''...

But surely if it was as clear cut as you are trying you make out they've nothing to fear. More proof that your ideas are crap.
Do you know anything about Risk and Return? participation in the World cup gives them $$.. Although Qualifiers are a good way to go about things, There is the inherent risk of Ban and Zim not qualifying..So they don't want to take a chance. Imagine if Ban and Zim are given this choice what would they take?

1) WC with 14 teams . No qualifiers
2) Qualifiers with 10 teams.. and you have to play the qualifiers.

U might want to analyze that before coming up and saying my ideas are crap.

How do you justify more games like The ones between Canada vs SL, Canada vs Aus, NZL vs Kenya etc.. All we need is a contest. These games were over as a contest in probably the first half. Added to that in the FIFA world cup there are audiences for teams, who watches those games involving the minnows??
Watching Canada's openers smash the Australians around the park was great entertainment.

Because it was a pointless ODI series right before an Ashes series.

A World Cup (the first in Oceania for 23 years) is a slightly different matter.

Looking at it again, is it the top 6 associates play in a qualifier with 1/2 from Division two and then say for example Ireland and Afghanistan qualify from the 8 teams, then the other 6 who didn't qualify go into another league with 3/4 from Division two and battle it out for the last two spots?...

Surely the fact it's 2 competitions should be seen as a good thing as it gives these Associate Nations a larger amount of gametime against opposition of a level similar to their own?

True but I would assume 2 tournaments are more expensive than 1. I can picture the ICC turning around in a couple years and cutting associate benefits somewhere else to balance everything.

Is the 8 team league the ICC mention the league which is currently underway, run parallel with the intercontinental cup? If so, this is more classic ICC work, changing the significance of the competition after it has already commenced.

I feel a bit for Afghanistan too, since they won't get any home ground advantage for their games. Still, they'll probably be good enough anyway...
