SANAAAAATH!!! :notworthy

WAFG.

Would have tuned it if I'd known this was going on. He'll play the ODI's, right?
ODI, as I understand.

He plays in the first as a "farewell match" and that's it.

As indeed it is for this game too.

Truly, truly awful performance from England.

Absolute garbage from England, should expect better from England esepcially with being World Champs and No1 in the rankings, they sure as **** didn't play that way.

Dire stuff from England, made it hardly worth staying up to watch the match - certainly not what you'd expect of a side currently holding the World T20 title. Hard to argue with some of the points raised from the commentators regarding England's team selection too.

Ah, thanks.

Do they have official T20 rankings also? Seems like there are hardly enough T20Is to go by to be able to release any meaningful rankings.

Yes, don't understand the selection of Lumb, who's been in terrible form since the WC, he's just had one decent knock recently. Bopara for obvious reasons when Bell's stood on the sidelines, Wright because he's a waste of a place and I'd have rather put a proper bowler in instead of Woakes.

I don't think there's a official one but there's a fair few around.

I was sat in Bar Venezia, by the quay, having some Amstels (not Simon BTW), I can't say I regret my decision:cool:

Didn't actually watch the game, but it seems Dernbach was one of the only positives to come out of it. Appaz his domestic record is a bit misleading. A couple of years ago he was atrocious and hugely expensive in limited overs games, but supposedly something changed almost overnight, and he has been a much better bowler since - developing his slower balls and changing his pace well, but most importantly getting that economy right down. Hopefully what I just said is true and not garbage.

Looks like England got absolutely mullered. Not hugely surprised given the team selected.

Thoughts on Broad's captaincy, anyone? Seems strange for him to not bowl first up, being by far the best bowler in the side and all.

Formulaic at best. Even with less than a run a ball needed and fewer than 5 overs left there were easy singles on offer all around the ground.

For all the (completely justified) criticism of the pop-gun Sri Lankan bowling attack during the test series, it is interesting to see that over the last two limited overs fixtures between the two sides the Sri Lankan bowlers have taken 15 wickets for 365 runs from 70 overs which equtes to an average of 24.3, an economy rate of 5.2 and taking a wicket every 28 deliveries.

The corresponding figures for the English bowlers are 1 wicket for 368 runs from 56.5 overs which equates to an average of 368, an economy rate of 6.47 and striking at a wicket every 341 deliveries.

Not really trying to make any particular point here; obviously different formats, a small sample space, lies damned lies and statistics etc...

Just an interesting statistical fact I thought I'd point out.

I dont think anyone can criticise our limited overs bowling attack tbh. Among the better attacks in the world even without Murali.

Bresnan's been brought back into the England squad today. Does anyone think he won't be picked to play?

Is he nailed on thanks to performances before he was injured, or will the selectors pass him by and give him a few more days to re-find his craft?

I think he's an automatic pick.

I think his stock certainly rose after Saturday's efforts.

But yeah, if he's fit (and one assumes he is after inclusion) he should be inked in.

And a different bowling attack.

My pick, given the squad:

Cook, Kes, Trott, KP, Bell, Morgan, Patel, Bresnan, Swann, Broad, Anderson.

The Sri Lankans' one-day batting is almost embarrassingly better than ours. Hoping Bresnan's fully fit.

England do tend to get the job done in ODI cricket a little bit more often than they have any right to on paper, though. Should be an interesting series.
