I am pretty sure this has been asked before but I just wanted to see for myself.

I am only asking who is better not who you prefer or who is more entertaining.

Wasim is more talented and can do more with the ball but has to be McGrath for his unbelieveable consistency.

Not fond of voting against Akram. I hate you BlazeDragon.
I have no issue with people considering McGrath to be the better bowler.I was just surprised at the 'by some distance' in some silentstriker's post. There's hardly anything to chose between the two.It\s like the Murali vs Warne comparison.Depending on who you ask, either can be the better bowler.

Better can only be looked at by results. In that context there is some distance between them IMO.

I had read the funniest thing form a Pakistani fan once. There was this video of Mcgrath getting hit by five 4s in an over by Razzaq. He was arguing that Wasim and Waquar were better than Mcgrath because they would never get hit like that. Pretty ridiculous excuse to give for saying someone is better.

Btw, does anybody know of any bad overs by Wasim and Waquar? I am pretty sure I remember of this one over by Wasim in 2001 where he went for 20+ runs against Gilchrist.

McGrath must take this if you're looking at results. But Wasim's the player I'd rather have in the side, let's put it that way.

Wasim Akram was several different shades of awesome but Mcgrath performed better. There is something more admirable about the fact that Wasim's skills were learnt whereas Mcgrath's accuracy was more drilled and honed. That being said, a raw Wasim, who had only the inswinger, did pretty damn well so perhaps that point is invalid.

Either way, I go with Mcgrath.

State Vice-Captain
mcgrath for his consistent perfection.

however, if i wanted to have a person who could come up with some inspired stuff to change the course of a match, it would be akram.

somewhat similar to the way i look at tendulkar and lara.

It could be bias on my part, but I have always felt Wasim to be the better bowler. I really think Wasim would’ve had the better stats had he played for a team like Australia, where more than half of his chances weren’t dropped by pathetic fielders. McGrath could also bowl with a different mindset in the Australian team. He was either defending a formidable lead, or he could bowl being assured that no matter what the total he and his bowling mates gave up, his batsman were likely to conquer it. That type of peace of mind and the resulting confidence can do wonders for your performance. I know these are all intangibles that can’t really be measured in stats, and some may even disagree with my assessment of them, but they along with the variety in Wasim’s arsenal edge him over McGrath in my book.

A fascinating view upon things.
