Dropping Bishoo on the West Indian pitches as they are currently will be the most suicidal move ever.

Is today's Indian squad better than the Pakistan team that toured here?
The Indian batting is significantly better. You have proven class in Laxman and Dravid and plenty of youngsters. Man to man, the best Pakistani player Misbah is cetainly a few notches below both of them (although higher than Dhoni).

Taufeeq came good in the 2nd test. The rest of the Pakistani batting line-up looked brittle and batted poorly, especially in the first test. Lots of promise in their cameos but delivered little.

As far as Pakistani bowling is concerned, the tracks had some real purchase. Especially the indiscreet bounce in the first test. Ajmal and Rehman used the spinning tracks very well and ran through batsmen inept at playing spin.

I'd expect Harbhajan & Mishra to be just as deadly (if not more) on such tracks. Umar Gul did not bowl well in the first test and on the whole, I would give Pakistani fast bowling a point or two higher than Indian "pace" options.

My verdict:

Pakistani squad (May) - 6/10

Indian squad (June) - 7.5/10

Indian players I shall be following closely in this series: Murali Vijay (expecting consistently solid performances from him), Virat Kohli (eagerly waiting for his first series), Ishant Sharma (waiting to see improvements in him), Rahul Dravid (expecting him to regain his form with a bang) and Amit Mishra (expecting a much-improved test performance from him).

Haven't been following this tour, but have India just 'rested' their stars for this test series?
Only Sachin has officially been rested. Everyone else has injuries (most picked up in the IPL though), but you can argue that Sehwag has been rested too because he chose to play through his injury in the IPL and only have surgery after his team couldn't make finals.

They were all rested for the T20 and ODIs though.

I see.

So brutally against resting players in test matches. Was talk of Australia doing it against Bangladesh and I was furious. You don't gift ****s test caps, that's what ODI's are for.

Like Murphy, have no real idea about this series - what was the justification given for resting Sachin?

Not trying to get a reaction here or anything, but does it rile a bit that (arguably) your best player can seemingly pick and choose when he does and doesn't play - bloke barely seems to play ODIs nowadays unless it's the World Cup, and now he's being rested for a Test series. Surely people would want him to play as much as he can?

Yeah we had a debate here a few weeks about. Indian fans very split on it.

I'm uneasy about it, but at the end of the day the schedule between the IPL, West Indies tour and England tour is so jam packed, and the fact is, unfortunately the IPL has changed the game now.

Plus it give Kohli a go :D

The only person who has been "gifted" a test debut is Kohli technically, as he's the one replacing Sachin, who is "officially" being rested. Mukund has come in for Sehwag who is legitimately injured. Praveen Kumar has come in for Zaheer and Sreesanth who is legitimately injured.

A lot of India's 2nd XI are injured as well so its a weird tour.

Far out Vijay, what a douche making Mukund take strike :p

Mukund's first ever test runs a french cut for 4. That's just what you want, luck is on your side
