They probably could have played if they wanted to ,but want to not take a risk with the English tour coming up.

Just to clarify, Sreesanth and Zaheer are not playing due to injuries. Not because they can't be bothered to turn up.

Praveen Kumar playing tests can only be a good thing. I love you IPL even though I can't stand watching you. haters, suck, fat etc.
Agreed.

Specially ahead of the English tour.

Zaheer not playing is fine IMO. Prefer he gets some rest before England.

Sreesanth not playing is fine IMO. Prefer he goes and falls off a cliff before England.

Won't particularly miss Sreesanth, but Zaheer should really be playing as much Test cricket as he possibly can. Sure, he's "injured", but he did play the IPL. When he's in the form of his life, and knows his game inside-out, you'd think he'd want to try and get that average down and make up for the poor early part of his career. Our bowling depth is really **** and we need him badly as well.

We will be going into the Test series with a very average-looking pace attack. I guess Pakistan managed to do OK without their pacers really contributing much in the recent series, so India are probably trying to do the same. Can't say I'm confident of Harbhajan replicating Ajmal's performance with his defensive style of bowling.

Bhajji has got to be the most unfairly targeted cricketers in recent times. He's the main reason that India was able to draw their last 3 series against Sa consistently demolishes Australia the only weak area is his struggle against Sl and Pakistan.Has benifitted from playing in a team that provides him scoreboard protection but also has the added responsibility to win matches due to an average bowling support.A modern day great no doubt.

Zaheer resting is a positive for India forget Sehwag,Sachin or Laxman if India has to do well in England they most need a fit Zaheer,on the other hand Sree is not a big loss imo.

Haha no. He demolished them that one time, but his record in Australia is abysmal like every other visiting spinner. He has a good record against SA, yes, but he was outbowled by ****ing Ojha for most of 2010.

India are Fine but I'm not sure about Parthiv opening

Source: CozyCricket - Jayesh D's thoughts on the game

Things are looking pretty darn good for the severely depleted Indian team. Even without the presence of most of their World Cup batting heroes, they have managed to chase down two targets with relative ease. In addition, Praveen and Munaf have made up for Zaheer's absence, and concerns about the fifth-bowling options have been eased after Yusuf Pathan picked up the important wickets of Simmons and Samuels. Samuels dismissal was incredibly thoughtful. Pathan fired the ball wide down the leg side to get him stumped. Until that point, Samuels had the best of Pathan in the series and Pathan needs to keep up this performance if he wants to push for national selection.
Dhawan
Many are concerned about the presence of Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order. He has not looked too convincing in either of his outings, not even when he made a half-century in the first ODI. However, with 3 matches left, he has a golden opportunity to prove his critics wrong.
Parthiv
Despite, Parthiv's half-century in the last game, I am not convinced that he should be batting up the order. Badri has a fantastic record but hasn't performed in international cricket to date. It would be a good idea to throw him into the deep end by having him open, to see if he can handle the pressures of international cricket. He has a solid technique and is a gritty fighter. There is no reason he cannot succeed. In my opinion, unearthing Badri's full potential will be more valuable than using Parthiv as a stop-gap opener.
Mishra
He bowled with flight, guile and serious turn in the last game. He was a constant threat, and at least for now he has settled the debate over the second spinners slot. It will be interesting to see if the pitch at Antigua provides similar assistance and if not, will he be able to maintain his consistency? The fight for the second spinners slot may just turn into a 'horses for courses' scenario, where the more economical Ashwin plays on pitches that don't offer much turn and Mishra plays on pitches with favorable assistance.

All in all, the bowling looks solid, but the batting less so, with Badrinath, Pathan, and the openers yet to fire. Regardless India are performing well, and exceeding some peoples expectations. They could well seal the series today.

Kirk Edwards out for a duck, but that was a good partnership between Simmons and Sarwan....

Pity about Sarwan getting run out.

My club side in Beijing attracts more fans than the West Indies.

No wonder Zaheer was rested. India are playing chumps.

Funny way of giving someone out and it didn't look out. Oh well, the million $ chump gone.

Statistically, some unreal stuff here. Last 20 overs have the WI at 41-6 with five maiden overs and no more than 4 runs off any over! Of course not a single boundary.

We've seen spectacular batting collapses but this is a slow crumbling down of an innings.

Edit: Oh wait, there's still a pulse to this innings, Russel smote two fours in one over. Five batsmen in between did not find the fence at all, over 22 overs.
