Rules ought to be that the UDRS shouldn't be used only if both boards object. If the ICC support it as a whole, that's the position they should adopt.

It's about time UDRS was made mandatory. It's hardly fair if it's used in every series other than ones involving India.

They weren't against drug testing per se, and the reason was very much a legitimate one. The players were concerned about a "whereabouts" clause, IIRC. That and the UDRS issue are two entirely different things.

You guys are forgetting that India DID want the UDRS more than most teams and we were the first ones to try it out. It is just that it was implemented with some holes and the team used it pretty poorly that they just developed cold feet and won't let go of that feeling even now..


Even Harbhajan said he is in favor of UDRS and a couple of others like Sehwag too, I believe..

Come on, who are we kidding? The umpires have shown that they have a tendency to throw common sense out the window and go by the rule book just for the heck of it in instances. The 2.5 meter rule for instance in the WC. In one game it wasn't out and in another game it was out. I bet the BCCI would consider using the UDRS if every test they play was umpired by smart umpires. I guess their gripe is with the standard of the umpires in the elite panel rather than the UDRS itself.

Whether or not UDRS is perfect and could in some way be improved doesn't matter, what does matter is whether its better than the old system, which it is.

Hello, I've just come to know that the BCCI are opposing the use of UDRS in the upcoming test series. That's a complete joke, in my opinion.

It's my understanding that the home team has the biggest say regarding the UDRS and I request that the ECB insist strongly that the UDRS is used. The opposition behind the UDRS stems from atrocious reasoning such as Bell not being given out during the WC game vs India which, guess what, would not have been given out even is the UDRS was not present. It is scary that the cricket body which represents the most massive fan base is so illogical and stubborn.

I'm an Indian fan living in India and almost every serious test cricket fan I know is for the UDRS. While it isn't a perfect system, It's a step forward and it's outright stupid not to prefer a 95% system over an 80% system just because the former is not 100%.

The whereabouts clause has been perfectly acceptable to every other sport out there, including sports many Indians compete in. Only Indian cricketers were apparently troubled by it. That's another issue though.

Other Indian sports are a different planet compared to cricket.. Just a shame people can't realize that.
