I got to apologize to Jono, watching matches in Windies as a neutral is pretty dull to watch can't bear to watch both games for more then 5 overs.

Wake me up when the test serie starts. Interesting to see Junior Bravo get the can for the last match. He's played fairly **** this whole year

Which means he should be getting infractions for trolling us all. ;)
Tbf,he could be typing from his phone on one occasion and from his Computer on the another.

Why he sometimes types longer in text speak is a bit strange though.

The second-string label on this current Indian team is quite annoying, and also a little inappropriate. Many of these so-called second-string players are actually good enough for the frontline team, but have missed out for reasons either typical or nonsensical. Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar and Manoj Tiwary are largely experienced in domestic cricket and have gone on tour with the reserves often, and often figure in second XIs for touring teams in India. Saha is also one of the better OD wicketkeeping all-rounders available at present, though second to Dinesh Karthik. They should get more international caps, but selectors' priorities are elsewhere. We often see youngsters picked with little FC experience, or on account of a single season, or because a seniot player had a bad game for India. A clean sweep of the series, with some comprehensive wins, should prove wrong that silly B-team label that's sadly stuck on this team.

This is what the rest of us call a second-string.

Fair enough to argue that some of them should be first choice, but they clearly aren't.

Yeah, strange rant. It's pretty clear they're second string. You can argue it's a good team or even a better team than the first eleven if you like but there's debate over whether or not it's second string; it's a fact. Not even the captain played at full strength in the last major one day tournament India participated in, and only four of the eleven that played yesterday are in what the Indian selectors would consider their best ODI outfit.

The WICB is far from perfect but its becoming increasingly clear that Gayle cares little for representing the Windies side anymore if he can't be bothered to meet with the board.

lol at Senior Bravo asking for a rest. He's hopeless anyway now

Looking forward to seeing Roach back in action though

Personally, I think both sides are at fault....

It's not hard for the two of them to meet. Anyone who watched the first ODI could see Gayle and Taylor in the stands, watching the match. If the cameraman can find him, then so could anyone else.

But the problem is one of a standoff. Gayle has been summoned to bow and scrape before a disciplinary board, full of selectors, board members, etc. If Gayle is in a Katich-like mood, then that kind of confrontational meeting is not going to happen, or if it does, it's going to end in a lose-lose situation. What West Indies cricket needs is for someone in authority to approach Gayle and say, let's let bygones be bygones, and move on from here.

If that doesn't happen, then strife will continue to reign in WI cricket, and the West Indies will continue to field weakened teams that they cannot afford to field....

It's just a relative term. Whoever hasn't been picked in a major ODI tournament and isn't considered one of the selectors' favourites is labelled a second-string player.

That doesn't do justice to a lot of these players in this Indian squad. Some of them are unlucky to miss out due to tough competition for places (Badrinath, Rohit), some (Praveen Kumar) missed out due to injury or poor form at the wrong time, while some others (Mishra, Vinay Kumar) often miss out because the selectors don't seem to think they're good enough for the best Indian side. Which shows the selectors practically never pick the best Indian side. Every Indian selection has at least three second-string players, even without this emergency of pullouts.

Indian selections have often been baffling, with experienced domestic players left out for folks who just happened to be younger (at least on paper), and come straight out of youth cricket selections. Someone who's slogged for at least half a decade in domestic cricket is left out, in favour of someone who's in his late 20s, even if the youngster is way behind. It's anybody's guess how many of these preferred youngsters are as young as their certificates say, but Indian selectors' first choice is never really the best, and at least half of the replacements here should be squad regulars.

We seem to be talking more from a TRP/broadcasting/official sheet perspective than merely cricketing merit, when labels are cast this way.

No one is calling them second-string in a derogatory manner, trying to question their ability or anything like that. It's just that when Player A, B, C are rested and others take their places then obviously they are 'second-string' in that sense.
