Cricket australia contracts

Very harsh on Katich. I get the feeling his test career is over now, given the quotes in the story about "Blooding a new opening partnership for the Ashes in 2 years".

Shame O'Keefe missed out, I still rate him above Doherty and Krejza. And I don't know why Hilfenhaus is getting another contract.

The issue with Copeland is that he hasn't proven himself in a variety of conditions. Not a knock on the guy, I would have liked to see him get a deal, but a lack of FC experience may have played a role. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up playing for Australia this year TBH.

Cummins is a top bowler, but a CA contract this early is really, really surprising. Let's hope they manage him well and keep him fit.

Don't mind the inclusion of the Husseys or Lee. Lee is still the leader of our ODI attack, Dave Hussey still has a few years left and would be a better Test number 6 than Smith, and Mike hasn't done anything wrong as far as I can recall.

Also not surprised at the lack of love for Pete George. Despite getting a Test, he needs to prove himself outside of Tasmania.

You heard me.

I've seen George a fair bit now, probs not as much as you being a SA ****, but I really really don't rate him whatsoever. His action is all over the place, is slow, just could never make it at international level imo.

My 2 cents

* Cummins IS good. But wtf has he done to deserve a contract over Copeland?
* Doherty and Krejza over O'Keefe? Seriously?
* Dunno if Dussey deserves to be there either.

hang on

not sure about the axing of katich. ok, if u want to sweep out the old guard, then get rid off hussey too. and, dare it say it, ponting. ok, not ponting.

and why keep hughes in there? doesn't seem to be an international quality batsman.

glad to see krejza in there.

Biggest problem is lack of movement, I reckon. Gets useful bounce but not consistently enough to worry decent FC players (doesn't really take the ball away from the bat at all) and really only takes wickets in the most seam-friendly conditions.

Such as Bellerive where he's taken over 1/4 of his FC wickets @ about 12. Lawl.

Why are you going over the top though? I don't understand? Just wait until the squad/team for SL gets announced.

Such a concerning statement

the National Selection Panel felt it was the right time now to start blooding our next opening partnership in preparation for the Ashes two years from now

Lol at Cummins being included. Three FC games?

Seems about right. Only questions is who takes Krejza's spot if Hauritz doesn't make it and I reckon Hilf might get 14.

No Corey Richards or Greg Mail getting contracts is itstl.
Greg lives on my street apparently. If I ever see him - never have - I'll be sure to give him some words of support. He wouldn't be taking the news well imo

I find it particularly concerning that the selectors are focusing on the Ashes in two years time when there's a very real possibility that we'll struggle to win a test series or even compete this year.

Does our unbeaten home record against India not matter? Nor repeating our previous performances in South Africa?

but this is what they do. Decide on a team 12 to 18 months out from the Ashes and then stick with it no matter how well they are going. Worked well last time...
