At the very least Hughes being there means for SL it's Watson and him which is terrible for all of us

The bowling selections are fairly sound and considering the selections over the past year, they really had to back the batters in today's contract list or it would have sent a fairly inconsistent message. They've made a bit of a rod for their own backs and it started a a couple of years ago, really.

Not necessarily a bad thing, in pure cricketing terms. Better him than say Scott Coyte. Or Moises Henriques.

On the other hand, I can understand the reasoning behind axing Kat. He's not exactly been bashing the door down for a while and I could see this as a way of encouraging Hughes to kick on, especially since he hit a couple of tons toward the end of the season. Reckon if we were leading into the home summer, Katich might have kept his contract but with Clarke kicking off a new era, I guess it was time to drop the boom on guys possibly in a long decline.

Either that or this is the longest revenge attack in history and Clarke is the most evil and petty captain since Mark Taylor.

Meh it's not the end of the world. They're only contracts. It'll sort itself out. Some mixed messages, no doubt. But ultimately they only affect state squads.
