He bowled really well on debut; he was even a bit quicker than he has been here. I thought Sri Lanka had something and I was surprised when he got dropped. He was absolutely rubbish between then and now though; I don't really know what happened.
He was poo when India toured SL last year, didn't even get a bowl when we were chasing 250 odd on day 5.

Bowling beautifully here though, moving it both ways.

Welegedera is useful, there are worse bowlers than him who have played 30+ tests worldwide. Something to work on anyway from a Sri Lankan point of view as regards finding an attack to move forward in the future with.

frankly disapp day of cricket, sl had all chance of putting up a hundred plus lead but jaya and samara threw it away. eng bowlers were poor, finn was poo for most part, but produced intermittent rippers in between that got him wickets. but his figures flatter his actual work with so many leg byes and byes down the leg side.

broad was poor too but I think he certainly bowled better than finn. swann was below par as well. oonly solace somewhat was tiny trem with his robotic line and bounce but with runs leaking ayt the other end, he can only do so much.

now strauss goes.

Swann wasn't poor, and Broad was worse than Finn.

Herath certainly is if I'm being honest.
My database says Fernando's better than Welegedera but it thinks Dilshan is better than both so it's probably not too accurate in rating this attack other than determining that it's crap overall. :p

That doesn't sound like you've watched it.

That's just the cricketing equivalent of "but all the cool kids are doing it". It doesn't make it the right move.
Not really, it's a guideline as to the belief and confidence the very best teams have in their own ability, and their mindset of believing they can win from any given position. It's not a bad template to attempt to replicate, imo.

The selectors should persist with him. He's still 29 and could have a good 5-6 years ahead of him. A left-armer who can swing it is always a good man to have in the attack. Unless your head is ****ed up and your last name starts with J!

Lakmal and Wele should be given a fair run by the Board. And confidence by their captain to pitch it up, try to swing it and get wickets.

It does however raise a point in the team's balance.

Why the bloody heck do you play 5 proper shunt bowlers when you have Dilshan in the team? If Maharoof had been replaced by Chandimal Sri Lanka would probably be still batting.

Interesting test of Cook this. Will help show us whether he's sorted his issues outside off stump lately or he just hasn't faced bowling that's exposed it.

The fact that they aren't might inadvertently work in their favour if they can pick up a couple more cheaply. Could put them in a real good position to push for the result, whereas they might have batted too long otherwise.

Left arm pitch it up swing bowler doing better in England is no shocker, tbh.

RP singh was pretty good last time India toured out of all people.

That is why i have been advocating India to pick the likes of Kumar and even maybe a punt on Pathan in england for a time now.

The likes of Maharoof and Munaf won't do so well.

Edit - Even Unadkat tore it up there in the India A tour last year.
