I don't think even Jimmy would be doing much with the ball. Dry atmosphere, dead flat batting pitch, ball doing absolutely nothing.

As I type, a wicket finally falls.
He wouldn't be bowling every second ball in his own half, a metre wide of off or down leg as a minimum.

interesting stuff from arnold about sangakkara and jayawardene. pushed by hussein to choose one of the two, he plumped for the latter on the basis on being more all round player capable of dealing with pressure that little bit more. always find these kinds of opinions and insider 'insights' intriguing.

holding's earlier analysis of the bent/braced front leg was also quite enlightening.

On a pitch like Lords, which is nearly always , a pitch which takes, at the very best 5 hard days, to get a result, it shows, that when chances are given, like the 2 earlier dropped catches, you need to take because they don't come a long that often.
Even though I always want England to blast through sides, this is exactly what they needed, 5 hard days of test cricket and see what fight they've got.
It's got to be said, in recent times, this is about the first bad day, they've had the bowlers, so it's going to be interesting to see how they respond tomorrow.

Tremlett's disappointed today. He's not bowled terribly but he's not looked very threatening either. Seems to be putting the ball there rather than really bowling hard into the pitch.

Yes, he tends to do that in the first over and the finds his feet, like I said the standards the England bowlers have set themselves, they will be very disappointed, with how they bowled and the team as a whole, for not taking their chances.

This Test is only two days old but the rate of scoring means there's still a chance of a result, provided the pitch deteriorates later on. Around 380 runs scored in the day's play today.

SL must still be gutted over that fifth day collapse at Cardiff, apart from that one session or so of brain-fade, they've competed well over the course of this series.

indian batsmen will be smacking their lips in anticipation......

finn acted like a true **** giving a send off to paranavitarana... after having put on a double ton with his cap... broad bowled like broad and tiny trem could only do much. swann was gud in parts but not enuf today for eng.

always thought that last day collapse was a one off... like eng folding for 54 against wi last time they toured....

Why will they, that's about as bad as England have bowled in a couple of years.
I knew it wouldn't be long, before you tried talking the England team down again.

From the coverage on channel 5, all he did was run past him and glance at him afterwards. Certainly not what I'd call a proper send off at all.

How the **** did Finn give a send off?
why dont u check with the sky guys who concurred with me as well? I saw it live and certainly looked so. oh and cricinfo agrees with me as well,

53.5 Finn to Paranavitana, OUT, the stand is broken!
Paranavitana's patience and concentration is finally
broken as he flashes a flat-batted drive at a full,
wide ball and edges straight to Strauss at first slip.
He's given it away and he knows it, walking off with
head bowed. Still, take nothing away from his
contribution to an opening partnership that has
brought Sri Lanka right back into this game
NT Paranavitana c Strauss b Finn 65 (234m
184b 10x4 0x6) SR: 35.32
Finn is fired up after the wicket too, giving the
batsman something of a send-off as he runs past
in celebration

I'm not a fan of send offs a best of times, but Finn's, was probably born at of the fact, it was the same batter who Cook dropped, right at the beginning of Finn's fist spell. Not really in Finn's character to do that, and wasn't much of one anyway.

yeah he came across as likeable to me, and yeah it cud have been the drop, but still acted like a **** giving that send off:... not the batsman's fault he got dropped and what did finn expect?

Like I said, not a fan of them, but a lot of bowlers do, do it and when it's done in the heat of the moment you can sort of understand it.
