Stopped keeping track of Pakistani cricketers' retirements, bans and reversals long time ago.

Afridi certainly hasn't been my favourite Pakistani cricketer, but to prevent him earning an honest wage in the domestic leagues such as the Sri Lankan Premier League and County Cricket is disgusting. Ijaz Butt has gone too far this time and should be forced out of the PCB.

I don't get why a player suspended from his contract needs a NOC to play overseas

I remember Mushtaq Ahmed needing a NOC eventhough he had already announced int retirement, expect the lawyers to get involved in this.

+1.
Can anyone explain the rules? Is it something like once an employee always an employee? Disgusting if that is the case.
NOC is only required for 1-2yrs after retirement, its there to prevent early retirements (to play foreign domestic leagues IPL etc). Warne and Gilly can play anywhere in world without NOC.

It's a blatant restraint of trade and Afridi should be able to overturn his ban with ease you'd have thought.

I hope he sues and wins. Let me make it clear that I'm not a fan of Afridi, and I don't like the way he quit. Regardless, that doesn't give anyone a right to prevent him from making a living. PCB can ban him for life, that's their prerogative. However, they shouldn’t be allowed to interfere in who he plays for outside of Pakistan.

I doubt if appealing to Zardari will help matters though.Butt was appointed as PCB chairman because he's close to Zardari,so i don't see that working in Afridi's favor.

Legal action is another issue though.Aitzaz Ahsan's phone could be ringing a lot in the next few days.

seems like he has given an apology. So after retiring on principal he goes back crawling to the same people in less then 24 hours just so he can be allowed to play in a micky mouse league.

Not only is he nuts he's also a hypocrite.

English and law,or the combination of the former and the latter,or a combination of the latter and former,or cricket generally, are not your strong points.are they?

He has not given an apology. He has pleaded guilty to the charges about violating the code of conduct.Which he has.You are not allowed to go to the media and make such comments under the contract he was/is under with the PCB.So,in essence he did breach the terms of his contract and break the code of conduct by going to the media. He was obviously right in doing so.But that's another debate.

Pleading guilty is not an apology. So before you go on another one of your Afridi rants,be clear on what things mean and not what you want them to mean.

Tbh this might turn out all right for Pakistan. They need less controversy, not more, and Afridi will never provide that. Misbah is solid and has a good head on his shoulders. He also values his wicket and leads his batsmen by example.

The less glorious but more hardworking cricketers like Taufeeq Umar, Asad Shafiq, Misbah, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul and co. are the way forward for Pakistan.
You forgot Fawad Alam. Do not forget Fawad Alam.

Afridi won’t need NOC to play in SLPL’

KARACHI: Under-fire after his outburst against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), former captain Shahid Afridi received good news from Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Sources told ‘The News’ that organisers of the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) have told Afridi that they won’t be needing any No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for him to play in the tournament.

“Afridi has received assurances from SLPL officials that they won’t require any clearance from the cricket board,” said a source. “They have told Afridi that he will be playing in the league even if the PCB refuses to grant him an NOC,” he added.

The PCB has taken stern action against Afridi over his decision to directly blame the Board for his decision to retire from international cricket. Afridi said that he has decided to quit as a protest against PCB’s ill-treatment towards him. The Board decided to hit back by suspending Afridi’s central contract and revoking all the NOCs granted to the player.

The move has all but ended Afridi’s hopes of playing for Hampshire in the English Twenty20 competition.

There were similar fears about his participation in the inaugural SLPL in July-August this year.

Last month, Afridi accepted an offer to lead one of the franchises in the SLPL for a sum of US$35,000 in the inaugural season.

Apart from Afridi, other Pakistani players roped in by the SLPL include national captain Misbah-ul-Haq, retired fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul and Umar Akmal.

The SLPL will span over 18 days, with seven teams featuring in the inter-provincial competition.

Pakistani players aside, the tournament will also see other international stars like West Indies’ Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, Daniel Vettori of New Zealand, former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs and Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien.

He looks as stupid as a footballer and seems to be able to only live in the headlines. But I liked his performance in the WC and appreciate his stance against his (somewhat unpopular) national board.

Amazing guy this Afridi :)

Hmm, that NOC thing may see the SLPL in trouble with the ICC - IMO it can be viewed as being a rebel league like the ICL was.
