What's wrong with Onions? Strange that he's been completely forgotten about, or so it seems.
Still feeling his way back in really, has only played a few games after being out for more than a year.

Still the Dernbach decision is a facepalm. Hopefully he won't get to play, but I can see him being absolutely mauled if he does.

Perhaps it's seen as very early days into his return from long term injury and they're not sure how he'll go in a five day game. He did play in the Lions match against SL, so he's still in the frame. Talking of that game, didn't Dernbach do well then, which is perhaps what got him the nod?

Would have preferred Harris getting a call up instead of another Saffer.

Just know Dirtbag will play now and take a hatfull of wickets.

Presumably. I've no idea why he's leapfrogged over Shahzad though. Sure, Shahzad hasn't been at his best lately but his best is way, way better than Dernbach. And he's done everything asked of him by England in the whites.

Should never pick another bowler from Yorkshire again if Howe's going to react like this every time

I wouldn't be so fussed about leaving Shahzad out if he hadn't already played a Test, gone to Australia and played well against Aus A, showing the selectors thought him next in line.

I would also not complain if it were someone who ever bowls half decently for his county getting picked ahead of him. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Reminds me of the Surrey bias meme we had 5-6 years back.
It's a reminder that it's still very much here. Davies had to move to Surrey before he got picked. Tremlett was always good enough but couldn't get a game until he put in a season with Surrey. Now we've got Dernbach despite that minor issue of never actually playing well.

I also keep hearing about Meaker. Why? All that's been said is he's quite quick. And plays for Surrey, of course. Anyone would think they've got the best attack in the world, never mind propping up division two for years.

Sometimes I think the selectors cbf to go north of the M25 when the season starts.

It's really sad that this is a legitimate question within our game now and not just a wacko conspiracy theory. Really sad.

Personally I'll never, ever suspect dubiousness in a sporting result merely because an unlikely outcome was achieved, but I can see why some would.
Great time for Hashan Tillakaratne to come out and name the Sri Lanka players who he alleges are bent.

Getting bowled out in 24 overs on a road would naturally raise questions but then you remember it is Sri Lanka and they don't do test cricket outside the subcontinent. Wicket was tailor made for them as well and they suffer the most embarrassing test defeat since Jerome Taylor bowled out England for 51 in Jamaica. God help them if the wicket at Lord's has any life in it.

More like 10+ years ago but back then Surrey were so good and it was no surprise that every Tom, Dick and Ian Ward got a test cap.

Though two of the best and most unsung heroes of that great era for Surrey, Ali Brown and Martin Bicknell were treated the worst by the England selectors.

The wickets at Lords are generally flat but far from the lifeless track that Cardiff showed on days 1-3, England's tall bowlers will extract a lot of bounce out of Lords and anyone who hasn't batted there can easily be surprised by the 'slope'.

Should be a fun game. The sun's going to shine from an empty sky for at least the first 2 days and I can't see any rain spoiling things.

Might be a good tight game - or a simple run-fest.

Obviously there's no excuse for 82 all out, but the wicket was playing up a fair bit by day 5. Not an easy time to bat by any means.

Indeed but England were looking at 150 all out first innings there last year before Trott and Broad put on 300 odd. And Pak didn't even make 150 in their 1st or 2nd innings.
