Afridi Announces Retirement

It's not an insult to call Afridi our best captain in the last 10 years when he was the only one who truly united the team and there were no spats or divisions within the camp as we had seen previously.Even during Inzi's time, there were well documented spats between Younis Khan,Afridi,Shoaib etc.

None of that took place under Afridi. He was incharge of one of the weakest teams we've had in the last 20- odd years, perhaps even THE weakest.Inzi,Waqar,Shoaib,Younis, they all had much stronger teams at their disposal.Afridi didn't.Yet the results he gathered were very impressive, also,he led from the front, but most importantly,he made the team play like a UNIT.None of our captains since Imran have managed to do that.

Stop looking for reasons to downplay Afridi. If you're going to give Waqar the credit for everything, then you might as well hold him accountable for not keeping a check on Asif,Amir and Butt. All of that,is just not true.Waqar has made Gul a much improved bowler,Wahab Riaz has learned a lot,but to say that Waqar is the one responsible for our performances is stupid.
Misbah has been able to get similar results with possibly a worse team so maybe its not Afridi or Misbah that is getting the best out the team it may very well be Waqar.

Tbh this might turn out all right for Pakistan. They need less controversy, not more, and Afridi will never provide that. Misbah is solid and has a good head on his shoulders. He also values his wicket and leads his batsmen by example.

The less glorious but more hardworking cricketers like Taufeeq Umar, Asad Shafiq, Misbah, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul and co. are the way forward for Pakistan.

Misbah certainly does not lead a worse team. Also, his results have been good, but Afridi has been better.Afridi has won every series where Pakistan went in as favorites, and he took 2 sides in England and Southafrica, which were better than Pakistan,to the limit. Also,he led us to WC semifinals against all odds.

Misbah has won 1 series NZ,and drawn one with SouthAfrica. Both being commendable. But not winning in the WI with the weakest team WI have perhaps ever had puts a stain on his captaincy record.

loosing Aamer and Asif and not having Yousuf and Younis most of the time is easily a bigger loss in tests then odi's.Afrdi has won2 and lost 2 series while Misbah has won 1 and drawn 2 so Misbah in that regard is ahead, both have not lead enough to make any formal judgement.

Actually a combination of both otherwise Pakistan will become NZL mk II in terms of cricketing cliches:dry:

By glorious I mean overhyped hacks who hit two nice boundaries then get out to a stupid shot.

Glorious was a metaphor for **** ****, because I'm trying to improve my filtheh mouth. From now on the new metaphor is Kamran Akmal.

I agree with Flem.

Pakistan should just clean house now. I am an Afridi fan, but if he's going to retire, just get rid of all the bad weight and start again. Rebuild and accept a few years of mediocre to poor results (no different to what they have produced for a while) to improve in the future.

Short-term pain for long-term gain.

this comment on twitter sums it up.

Usual stuff from me me. No surprise.

Sad end to a sad career, a player with all the talent in the world, some of the greatest hand eye coordination ever gifted to a batsmen, a talented leg spinner and someone who could have been anything.

In the end his career pretty much amounted to nothing aside from a few brief flashes of glory. Pity really.

does anybody find it hilarious that cricinfo uses the word 'quits' rather then 'retires' in their headline.

PCB plans action against Afridi

Ugh, the ugliness continues. I don’t like the way Afridi quit, but this is ****iness of the highest order by Butt. If he doesn’t want to play anymore under your rule, then let him be. No need to block his participation in various Twenty20 leagues.
