So just how good is Jonathan Trott?

GIMH

Norwood's on Fire
I haven't checked his average but I know it was pushing 70 before he got out. When this man bats, he doesn't like to be interrupted. But how good is he?

Is he England's Hussey? Picked at the right time resulting in tremendous returns but will inevitably be followed by regression to the mean? Or does he have the technique and patience to maintain such tremendous form?

Where does he rank among his contemporaries? Is he England's best batsman, or just the most in form? Does he now walk into a world XI? Is he the best in the world, or is he on his way to being so?

So many questions. Give me answers.

Very good player, but in my opinion, he's a lot like Mike Hussey. A guy who is a very good, Test class player, who has been made to wait and been picked in his prime. He looks better than he should early doors, but he'll get better as time goes on.

Yeah, solid Test pro in rare form but won't make any all-time great English teams.

Yeah.

Expect him to have a similar graph to Hussey in tests.

But won't be as good as Hussey in LOI cricket though.

Won't be surprised if Badrinath follows a graph similar to these 2 for India too.

I am always reminded, when someone starts their career like Trott or Hussey, that Jimmy Adams was averaging somewhere near 70-80 after 20 odd tests.

I like Trott though. His leg side play is sublime.

Very good, not great. Won't end as an all time great, but he is still extremely good and in a great patch right now.

Yeah but he's a lawyer and it means Burgey can like an English player publically. It's a small loophole but he'd drive a truck through one like that.

Hard to compare Adams to Hussey. Adams did drop off but a lot of the can be attributed to having his face rearranged by Andre Van Troost in 1995. It wasnt as it he was figured out.

As for Trott, I think the only answer is that we dont know yet. He has still played less than 20 Tests. A couple of big hundreds in the India series could go someway to adding more weight to his claims to be world class.

That tough well rounded Indian attack should be the ultimate challenge one feels
