wouldn't say that exactly crap... it rather denotes inability or lack of confidence on the part of batters to put bat to anything a cm outside off stump...

this is first innings... not 2nd where they are hanging on for dear life...

So neither Trott or Cook is Virendar Sehwag then.

Glad we've cleared that one up for all the kids at home.

Nah, it's just classic test match batting. Ignore the match situation, play each ball on its merits. Make them bowl at you.

Served them well down here.
That makes no sense in today's test cricket... they should try and win this... not just play so defensively... any bun can do that against this inexperienced SL attack on relatively flat pitch...

Never knew it's the forte of openers to go at less than 2 p.o...

on a flattish pitch against the likes of thissira perera and suranga lakmal...

Meh, play your natural game. They're still 300+ runs behind. I don't see the problem personally. Last thing they need to do is get out chasing a innocuous wide one, a la an Australian would do.

They are 400 runs behind. What's wrong with wearing the bowlers down a little?

Always happy to help the less fortunate.

There is no point in giving up so early... it's just negative cricket... they can't hope to be no.1 if they play like this

Hmm. Maybe Cook's been reading the thread. Flirts at a very wide one that races away to 3rd man for four.

Follows it up with an altogether more convincing boundary tho.

Few boundaries coming now. Cook looking a bit comfier. Trott not so much but only because he always looks generally unarsed.
