*Official* - India in West Indies

How anyone can defend someone playing the IPL and skipping a test series is beyond me. Like vcs said, it's indefensible. There's nothing really to argue or discuss.

A big  @ the money argument. You make it sound like Tendulkar's a greedy man. This is the guy who turned down a million dollar alcohol contract. He's the richest cricketer in the world, for crying out loud.
So he doesn't care about money at all that's what you talking???

Exploiting one's skill to maximum isn't greed. Greed happens when you sacrifice principles, inflict damage upon others and yourselves..

Tendulkar has done and more than done what could be expected out of him... He has given India the net effect of having two stellar quality batsmen back to back...

A test series in WI is hardly a place where he is going to have to prove himself... and India too haven't really got anyting to lose by trying out their guns... Had sachin retired from all cricket after WC, and played in IPL, would you be crying out loud like this?

If BCCI had scheduled a random ODI series, Tendulkar would have skipped it. If they had arranged a short test series with someone then nobody would have complained.
The arguments get dumb and dumber...

For a 3 test series in WI, they ought to have cancelled the IPL... and forego billions...

LOL!

If Tendulkar had skipped the ODI series here, then he probably would have played the one in the West Indies.

And if he had played the tests here, then he would have probably missed the West Indies tour in any case.

Reckon he wants to ensure availability for the England Tour and the cricket would have kept coming ,IPL or no IPL.

Besides the IPl is clearly playing a part in improving those who are taking these vacant places now and that is a positive i am shocked people fail to see.
Only it is providing them with about 90% of what they earn as Dinesh Karthik admitted recently.

It's is pretty clear now that he is a greedy man. Much more avaricious it would seem than players who have just a small fraction of his wealth. A very big player, a very small man, and an abominable role model to any kid who aspires to play for India.

He isn't going to play ODIs so there's no question that he'd have skipped the West Indies ODI series no matter what.

If he had played tests and injured himself then that would be entirely different. The whole point is, you cannot miss a test series for the freaking IPL. There's just no excuse.

Ignore him, he is already shown his Tendulkar baiting skills.. :p Was saying he's the most horrible captain he ever saw, (admitting he didn't watch the IPL also)

Baiting Tendulakr fans = Attention...

You are worried and unhappy about Tendulkar resting from the WI tests,

I am indifferent...

I respect your reaction, but I don't agree with this... tada...

So what you're saying is this :

1) Tendulkar is greedy.
2) He needs the money.
3) It's not like he's the richest cricketer around.
4) It's not like he turned down a million dollar contract when he was much younger.

Oh wait...

A test series in WI is hardly a place where he is going to have to prove himself
Are you saying he hasn't proved himself in England and Australia?

Had sachin retired from all cricket after WC, and played in IPL, would you be crying out loud like this?
 what kind of argument is this? That's a different matter entirely.

Good move by Tendulkar, giving a chance to the young guns waiting in the wings. Kohli, Badri and Mukund getting their over due test chance is great.

They could have had all the rest they wanted from April 8 to May 28. This is absolutely ridiculous. I can understand players skipping the ODI series even I don't like it, seeing they've just won the World Cup; but test series? It's totally unlike Tendulkar to ask to be rested for a test series (especially an away test series). Reckon he's injured himself during the IPL and just wants to ensure he's fit for the England series.

Hope your treatment's going okay. :)
Yes, agreed.

Thanks, treatment has been pretty tough - take the good days with the bad though and today hasn't been too bad so far.

So he would have skipped two ODI series in a row?

There is a reason why he has not retired from ODI's.

And if there had been a test series he would have missed the whole WI tour regardless.

Besides the Mumbai team and the IPL in general cannot exist without the stars. Sachin brings in the crowds like no one other(Average attendance around all the IPL venues were up atleast 30 to 40% for the matches involving Sachin and for that reason alone).

So there is pressure on him non monetary too plus he is pretty much in charge of Mumbai Indians at the moment and also a very good friend of the Ambani's.Plus the loyalty with his city of Mumbai.
The IPl won't be the same without him and the other big Indian names.

And a less succesful IPl in turn means that the domestic players get less money and less chances to improve themselves as they have done and even the likes of Badrinath and Kohli have admitted.

Also whether people admit it or not ,West Indies is no longer an attractive tour these days.
There is no way he would have missed this tour had it been England or Australia.

He missed the last tour to the West Indies due to shoulder problems ,even though he could have toured if required,IIRC.
And would you really begrudge a Kohli or Badrinath getting a run in his place ?

This is a perfect test tour to Blood the youngsters in,too without it being too easy or too tough.
And some spots are still up for grabs for England and Australian tours.

He has virtually retired from ODIs. I know he hasn't made an official statement as yet, but I'm quite sure he won't play any more ODIs - or at the very least, I am sure he won't play the weaker sides.

I acknowledge your point about Mumbai and the IPL; hence my beef with the IPL. Anyway, I'm done with this discussion.

I'm kind of in disbelief right now.

I did not mind too much, if at all, sending the youngsters to play the ODIs.

But so many players are missing the tests now, including Pujara who also picked up an injury in the IPL. Pujara bloody well needs test caps!

At the same time I am excited to see Kohli and Mukund in tests.

Weird feeling. I don't know what to think right now.

It could be blessing in disguise for some players to make case for the no.6th spot in test team in England tour and would really love if the openers performed brilliantly considering Sehwag or Gambhir might miss the opening leg in England tour
