He opted for surgery far too late, not early. Early would have been immediately after the World Cup.

And the timing has got nothing to do with the WI or England tours; he took it now because it is now that his team has absolutely no chance in the IPL. If they were still in contention, he would have postponed it till after the IPL is over; to hell with the England tour.

And from what I know of Sehwag, if questioned, he would openly admit it.
