McDermott Australia bowling coach

International Vice-Captain
Langer didnt get reappointed i thought, he was named Assistant Coach, rather than batting coach. Though i could be wrong.

Isn't that worse in a way? He got a promotion.

Although I don't necessarily mind Langer being around the setup, although the #3 comments are... revealing tstl.

I just want a better batting coach.

Can just see Langer consoling Ricky about his batting woes 'Don't worry mate, just keep your eye on the ball and it'll all come good with a bit of hard work'

It's not just the woeful batting that we've dished up in the last 18 months, and the technical deficiencies (although not entirely his fault, they've happened under his watch), it's Langer's brown nosed, cheerleading comments/disposition.

While we're not privy to the actual coaching sessions themselves, it's Langers attitude through the media that concerns me. It's full of horse **** about mental toughness when it's clear our batsmen have gaping technical deficiencies that aren't going to be solved by just thinking positive. Besides, results speak for themselves sometimes

Langer, a firm friend of Ricky Ponting, was catapulted into the batting role and has a simple philosophy for the run-makers.

"Focus on seeing the ball out of the bowler's hand and winning every contest," he told ESPNcricinfo in November. "If you do that enough the result looks after itself."

People at all levels of Australia's set-up have taken their eyes off the ball.

I can understand where you're coming from but I hung out with Langer a bit years ago and in person he's not all Mr New age, bit of angry short man about him (well, there was, maybe he found God or something). I can only imagine he is that way in public because he doesn't really know what to say when the cameras are on him.

We as punters as with journos can only go on the publicly available evidence - our batting under his reign as batting coach, and his obsequious media comments/written pieces/books and rejection of anything critical.

Couldn't give AD the job. He never seems to be around more than 5 minutes and his had spells here, there and everywhere, mostly with little or no success accredited to him.

McDermott will at least stick around.

He comes across as a bit of a wierdo. Tried to exude a nicer than nice impression when he was captain at Somerset, said all the rights publicly but apparently wasn't well liked by the club and the players.

Langer and McDermott. Sounds like a killer combo. Let's see if it kills the opposition or Australia.
