'Official' Pakistan in West Indies

Chanderpaul is such a strange player. He has the shots to score quickly (hundred vs Aus in 70 balls in a test and an epic finish against Vaas in an ODI being just 2 examples) but he bats at the same pace irrespective of the state of the game most of the time.

Chanderpaul going randomly bat-**** crazy is one of my favourite things in cricket.

I think they won a series in the mid 2000s there IIRC
Nope, we have never won a series in WI.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...tion=4;template=results;type=team;view=series

The series in 2005 was our previous best chance. However, Pakistan was severely depleted in the 1st Test. Inzi had to serve a one-match ban, Shoaib was injured as usual, YoYo went back to Pakistan due to the ill health of his father, and Malik was banned by the PCB for one match. Needless to say, we lost the 1st Test. We did win the 2nd Test to draw the series. But an opportunity lost.

Edit: Should point out that Imran's team should have won the 1988 series if not for some dodgy umpiring.

Spewing there's only two tests. Looking forward to seeing a potential Roach, Russell and Edwards attack though. Sammy, again, will be in the way however

Alam had a whine against Ijaz Butt few days back it will be a miracle to see Fawad in the team during Butt's tenure.

One of the greatest test series of all time IMO. Epic stuff. Imran's dream unfulfilled (according to him) due to some dodgy umpiring

Awesome article from cricinfo on that series.

West Indies had gone a decade without losing a Test at home. Then along came Imran Khan and Co.

The coup that wasn't | Cricket Features | Columns | ESPN Cricinfo

Some excerpts

"These two men were the heroes in a series that ended 1-1, but should have gone Pakistan's way if not for the spotty umpiring in the final Test, when the ninth-wicket pair of Jeff Dujon and Winston Benjamin took West Indies to victory.

Imran finished with 23 wickets, and Miandad made two centuries. Part-time bowlers Shoaib Mohammad and Mudassar Nazar took wickets at crucial times thanks to Imran going by instinct and giving them spells; Abdul Qadir punched a spectator who had been riling him and was forced to settle out of court; and it all ended with the West Indies captain, Viv Richards, in tears."

Epic series really

Oh FFS, Sammy? Any team with Sammy as captain is terrible.

Squad looks weak. Anyway just looking forward to the test series.

yeah Imran rates this series as the highlight of his career and not the 92 WC triumph would have retired from int cricket had they won this series.

Pakistan best chance was in 2000 when Jimmy Adams edged Wasim Akran 3 times and apart from Billy Doctorve everyone heard the noise West indies won the test by 1 wicket.

Agree with Razzaq. He has been shafted. Scored one of the best ODI hundreds in years last year and for his sins Pak have him at 8 for the WC.

Abdur Dartman is pretty fortunate to still be involved. Doesn't take wickets and there is no point in having him in the squad when you have Afridi, Ajmal and Hafeez around.

Windies side is so weak. You wonder where the runs are going to come from. Gibson should get Chesney Hughes into the mix before England poach him.

Razzaq has been in cruise mode for ages his bowling is non existent while he comes off with the bat once in every 5 games and most important thing he is not going to be there for the next WC, have big hopes from Hammad hope he gets a proper run.

Yeah, as if there was any logic to their selection at all. Won't be surprised if Farhat is back for tests

actually by Pakistan standards its a decent team selection apart from Fawad there is no glaring omission or selection.
