2015 World Cup: 10 teams and no associates

Entire Irish WC squad caught in mass orgy with ICC member's wives

That'll be the next headline we see. Mark my words.

How stupid is this!?! So if Ireland (or any other associate) are ranked in the top 10, they won't get included because they don't have test status??

And we have no qualifiers this time but have them in 2019? If we can have them next time, why not this time??

What are the top associate players supposed to do for the next 8 years? Be happy to play T20 and maybe 1 or 2 ODIs against a charitable test nation? Or just defect to England...

I'm gutted!! :@

why are they in a hurry to announce the format and number of teams ..are the schedules already out ...

thought the whole will start around 2013...wait till then and see whats the best way forward...any way they have always changed the format of the world cup ..

and finally there is some thing that is not blamed on BCCI for change :)

WI, Banga, Zim: Less chance of being embarrassed...?
Aus, Eng, NZ: Hosts of the next two WC's; want it over and done with it asap...?
SA, India, Pakistan, SL: ?????

i dunno know. but it's not a "we can blame (y) country" case by the looks of it.
Speculation, unconfirmed reports etc of course, but AFAIK CA and ECB were the main conspirators who mooted this in the first place. The BCCI is equally responsible - they are the one board who could have put their foot down and made sure that this preposterous conception was still-born - but as a loyal member of the cartel of the rich, they merrily played along.

Haha.

I think all the major boards have collective responsibility in this abysmal event. If ECB is the primary driving force behind it, the case is strongest as they stand directly to benefit from Ireland's non participation by getting access to their players. Regarding other boards, I am not sure what exactly are they gaining from this.
I don't think the motive of the ECB was quite as diabolical as that. These entities, be it the ECB or the BCCI or CA are intrinsically commercial organizations whose raison de'etre for their existence is making money. Any decision that they take can be easily understood by merely looking at the commercial factors that are involved; cricketing reasons only cloud the issue while trying to understand how these guys operate. It makes better business sense for India (and England, and Australia) to play eight highly competitive league games rather than just three. It is as simple as that.

The ICC may call the next two editions of this tournament whatever they feel like; to me they are definitely not World Cups. As a cricket fan, what can I do about it? Well, as it stands, nothing really - writing e-mails, denouncing the dastardly move in forums like Cricket Web are at best well intentioned, but essentially impotent gestures.

So I'm going to do the only thing I can that would mean anything to the mandarins that run these boards - vote with the remote. I'm not going to watch the 2015 and 2019 tournaments or follow them in the media in any way. Idealistic and ultimately futile, I know. It is an absurd pipe dream to expect cricket fans from the richer nations to join me - even those who feel outraged about this are not going to do anything more meaningful than contribute sterile verbiage.

what gets me worked up about the cwc is its constant re-tweeking of the format... I thought the 2011 wcw was fine.. what they should have said was this is the format from now on.. 2 groups pf 7 then qrts-semi-final (if you wanna be a world champion you gotta win three straight after the round robin). now we are going to revert back to 92 version and in 2019 come up with a new format, they just keep messing with it and each event becomes a stand alone entry.

So long as they can find a suitable format for 10 sides then I think that's the right number (but the 10 should involve some form of qualifying Tournament)

IMO a 10 team round robin a la 1992 is not the right format as by half way there's going to be teams who are already to all intents and purposes out of it but with 3 or 4 more games to play.

That said, I don't know what a good format. 14 was too many teams, but is 12 teams with quarter finals really the best idea?

Maybe 12 teams top 3 go through and resurrect the Super 6s with then just a straight final?

Porterfield lets rip;ICC World Cup 2015: 'ICC's decision a joke' - Porterfield | Cricket News | ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 | ESPN Cricinfo

"It's an absolute disgrace," Porterfield said, "and I don't know how they can even comprehend doing this. We have done everything they asked of us over the last few years in terms of restructuring Irish cricket and I can't come to terms with how they can just shut us out, do away with the qualification period and then try and call this a World Cup."

Interesting timing with Div 2 of the WCL due to start within days. What do these teams have to play for now? I guess there is still the Intercontinental Cup...

Pathetic, pathetic move IMO. All associates, Ireland in particular, should be given the chance to develop on a world stage in a meaningful format. This will push the game back countless years in the countries. Dire decision.

I don't actually mind the '92 style format where all teams play each other.

But there should be qualification for all.
I concur

Just have the hosts and holders given automatic entry and then have qualifiers for the rest.

James Sutherland has come out and said Aus supported the cull and then made up some excuse about momentum being lost because of them. wonder who else will come out and say they supported it.

Gotta hand it to CA, they are consistently out of line with popular sentiment. I don't think anything is disliked in Australia more than nepotism. At the very least there should be qualification.

So disgusted I've actually written to the ECB, for the first time ever. Not that it'll make any difference, but I just felt I had to register my opposition to this somehow.
