Shaun Tait quits cricket

Why not try and improve as a bowler? You act like bowling with an action that results in tearing your shoulder off every 6 months is something he's born with, and cannot improve.
So what does he do when he remodels his action and finds he's not a good enough bowler to forge any sort of professional career?

Probably waiting for a T10 tournament to come around, with a maximum of two overs per bowler he could be a real handful (in two spells of course).

I'm reminded of Shane Bond, tbh. Didn't he say "I could remodel my action to be less stressful but if I did I wouldn't see the point of playing any more" or something like that?

Over the past 12 months, I think that he's just lost that extra couple of yards that made him such a weapon. Now he's still quick, and can get on a bit of a roll, but he's not got the extreme pace that made him able to get out anyone at anytime.
Didn't Tait clock 100mph+ last year in England? And was comfortably 15kph+ on average quicker than any England bowler on show. He regularly touched 150kph+ when the Indian Canadians and the Indian Indians tucked into him in this WC. Pace didn't seem the problem, just bowled the wrong length most of the time.

If he wasn't so obsessed with bowling short every ball he would be a much better bowler

Hit short balls were actually threatening. It was the wide half volleys that got **** upon by batsmen.

The emphasis was on EVERY. Bowling short every ball means its really really hard to keep a good line, and the ones that are off go for runs. Don't overdo it, if he tries to bowl just short of a length instead with a couple of short ones every over thats where he's more dangerous.

That would be the ideal situation but of course Tait is likely to have problems doing that as well.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Tait simply does not bowl short every delivery.

Yeah if anything Lee was more likely to drop them in. Tait probably gave away more runs with half-volleys than any of the other Aussie bowlers in the WC.

Don't forget the 5 wides over 1st slip :( I don't think I've ever screamed at the tv at 4am like I did at that ball.

Anyway I've always liked Tait at full tilt. Noting more impressive than seeing a bowler crack 160. Went 1 WC too long, but all the best Taity.

Let's get real, the guy bowled poorly in 2 matches under conditions that were about as bad as one could get for his type of bowling

2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Mar 24, 2011 | Cricket Hawkeye | ESPN Cricinfo

I admit I haven't seen all that much of Tait in the recent past so you're probably right about him not bowling short all the time, but based on Hawkeye his short deliveries were all over the place, and there were a ****load of them as well. Very few balls on a length and those back of a length resulted in not much for the batsmen and the wicket of Sachin
Yeah but that's just **** bowling, not an obsession with bowling short. Tait's not exactly known for his pin-point accuracy when he has his tail up so if he's off his game, well, charitably, the batsmen will get some width to work with.

At his best, in amongst all the crap, he bowls the highest proportion of wicket-taking balls in a given over of any bowler I've certainly ever seen. Check this out, ING Cup final from a few years back;

14 wides! But 6/41 and almost bowled SA to a win in a game they had no business even making close (still :surprise: at the ball Jaques had to cope with). And that's not even his best bowling in a OD match;

EDIT: Speaking of, I hope Rob has footage of that game because word on the street is that JackTheMac was up on the hill at the time.

Don't think it was a broadcast game. Was before Fox Sports and while Ch 9 was broadcasting the odd game at the beginning and end of summer.

Watching Malinga accuratelyspearing in yorkers judiciously mixed with slower balls and the odd bumper makes you wonder about Tait...

I remember that match. It was awesome.

Am I right in saying that Henriques debuted in that match as well? Talk about a baptism of fire!

That was one of the best ODD finals I have ever seen. It was truly a game of Shaun Tait v NSW. He was bowling three or four ripping deliveries an over.
