Probably because it is a sponsor's name that doesn't sound like a sponsor's name. I'll still call it Subi like people call grounds Docklands, Kardinia Park, Football Park, etc., but it is easy money for the local football commission so who cares really.

I don't really get the re-naming of grounds - seems like a waste of money. I can't imagine many people go to the footy and come out thinking "gee, I'm interested in what Patersons can do for my investment portfolio."

It is something that gets a gooch load of exposure though. How many times does the name of a stadium (like Skilled) get mentioned during the course of the week compared to if you have a non-dynamic billboard for example? It's valuable for getting your name out there.

Everyone currently calls Docklands Etihad, and used to call it Telstra Dome for what it's worth.

Been doing the AFL dream team for four years now and one thing bugs me each year: why aren't team line-ups named before the week's games start in round one like every other week?

Related to this: is Didak likely to play? Appears in injury list but due to return in week one?

They have a partial lockout which means that you can change any players up till Thursday night and fgrom then till fridays game you can change anyone apart from Carlton & Richmond players. Teams are named 6am our time tomorrow and benches for Sunday are finalised on Friday. The real ballache is that subs don't seem to have to be named until just before kickoff.

I was confused about this for a while when it first happened. Benchy could be right about it being for the exposure, but my guess was that it's a more modern form of what banks used to do to convince people they were the real deal - build a really nice looking, expensive building.

In that sense what Patersons have done is not completely disconnected from getting exposure, but the difference is that I don't think they're after mass exposure to average Joes like us.
