With one day to go in their match, the Lions are in command against the Windwards, having made 290-9 declared in their second innings, with nightwatchman James Harris topscoring with 73, while Gale and Hildreth made 40s. Mathurin was the main wicket-taker for the Windwards, capturing 7-72. Chasing an improbable target of over 350, the Windwards were reeling at 10-2 at stumps, having lost Browne (3) and Theophile (7).

At the halfway stage in the top-of-the-table clash, Trinidad were interestingly poised at 172-3 in reply to Jamaica's 356 all out. Darren Ganga was 75 not out, and Lendl Simmons hit a half-century, while Andrew Richardson has taken two wickets and Jerome Taylor one, so far. Wavell Hinds hit 162 not out, while Dave Bernard and Brendan Nash made half-centuries in Jamaica's total.

The CCC secured a 44-run first innings lead when they bowled Guyana out for 207, Ryan Austin and Carlos Brathwaite taking four wickets each. Rajendra Chandrika topscored with 49, while there were useful knocks from Christian (41) and Mohamed (34). BBut at stumps the CCC were reeling at 40-3, with Rommel Currency holding the fort on 21 not out, against the bowling of Permaul with two wickets and Bess one, to date.

The cellar battle is an interesting contest for first innings points, as Barbados are 245-7 replying to 277 all out by the Leewards. Jonathan carter was the leding scorer for the Bajans with 82, and Jason Haynes chipped in with 52, while Shane Dowrich is still there on 31 not out. So far, Athanaze has taken three wickets, and Walters two.

Is he related to Kraigg?

Great stuff from the Lions. Finally a chance of getting a win behind them after having got into a winning position in almost every match. Jamaica still seem like the team to beat this year.

I don't think Carlos and Kraig are related. Brathwaite is a fairly common name in Barbados....

And in other matches....

Barbados registered a six-wicket win over the Leewards, after the latter collapsed in their second innings to be 82 all out. Peters topscored with 23 not out as there were three wickets for Pedro Collins, and two each for Tino Best and Ryan Hinds. The Bajans then hit 109-4, losing Kraigg Brathwaite (3), Jason Haynes (22), Brooks (15) and Hinds (24), but Jonathan Carter (36 not out) guided Barbados to victory at the end, while Justin Athanaze captured two wickets.

Pacer Andrew Richardson took three wickets, and there were two each for dibbly-dobblers Dave Bernard and Brendan Nash, as Jamaica dismissed Trinidad for 279 to secure a 77-run first innings lead. Darren Ganga topscored with 103, and there were scores of 52 from Lendl Simmons and 48 from Sherwin Ganga, but little else. At stumps on the penultimate day, Jamaica were 126-3, with Nash not out on 33 and with him is Tamar Lambert on three. The batsmen out are Simon Jackson (26), Danza Hyatt (3) and Marlon Samuels (39), while Sherwin Ganga, Shannon Gabriel and Amit Jaggernauth have each taken a wicket to date.

Chasing a victory target of 200, Guyana were 30-1 at the close with one day to go, having lost Rajendra Chandrika to spinner ryan Austin. Earlier, the CCC had collapsed to be 155 all out, Nkrumah Bonner topscoring with 62, but there was little else from the other batsmen, as spinner Veerasammy Permaul took 6-39.

The CCC secured a nail-biting eight-run win over Guyana, thanks to medium-pacer Carlos Brathwaite, who took 5-28 to dismiss the Guyanese for 191. Assad Fudadin topscored with 44 while Derwin Christian made 32.

The top-of-the-table clash between Jamaica and Trinidad ended in a draw, with the Jamaicans taking first innings points. Set an unlikely target of 304, Trinidad made 248-5 thanks to an unbeaten 104 from Denesh Ramdin, while Jason Mohammed made 56. The Jamaicans lost all their seamers to injury, as none of Jerome Taylor, Dave Bernard and Andrew Richardson took the field. Spinner Tamar Lambert took two wickets, and leggie Odean Brown one, while opening bowlers Brendan Nash and Wavell Hinds took one each with their medium-pacers.

Yes, JT is out with a back injury, and indications are that he will miss the next match against the Lions....

I've a feeling this injury may just keep him out of the home series against Pakistan next month.

Really hoping Tishan Maraj can find his feet in the next match. He was a big prospect (IMO) when he was younger, then he left cricket for medicine (IIRC). Now he's back and hopefully can build on his promise. Showed more composure at the crease than most, though struggled to turn starts into big scores.

Having declared myself driver of the Chris Woakes Fanboy Train, I am delighted to announce that Woakes - a couple of weeks on from his 5-18 against Guyana - came in to bat in Kingston with the score on 161/6.

Where he put on an attacking partnership with Durham's Ben Stokes. Stokes made 63 off 80 balls before being caught in the deep off Lambert, the score at this stage 232/7.

Woakes then hoarded the strike to put on 54 with James Harris (22), 18 with Danny Briggs (3) and 35 with #11 Nathan Buck (1*) on his way to 104* off 111 balls, his 3rd first class ton. The score at stumps was 340/9.

Incidentally, his FC batting average is now over 30, to go with his bowling average of 25, from 50 matches. This guy is 22.

Replying to 358 all out by the Lions, Jamaica reached 259-4 at the halfway stage, with Simon Jackson making 60, Danza Hyatt 59, and Marlon samuels 58. Tamar Lambert was out for just eight, but Brendan Nash was still there on 56, and with him is Wavell HInds on five. Danny Briggs has taken two wickets so far, and there's one each for Woakes and Buck. Left-arm slingy pacer Sheldon Cotterell took 3-80 for Jamaica.

At the end of the Day One in the other three matches, there were contrasting positions. Twenty-two wickets fell in Barbados, where the Bajans were dismissed for just 90, Jason Haynes topscoring with 49 against spinner Kavesh Kantasingh, who took 7-22. In reply, the CCC only did marginally better, making 113 all out, Nkrumah Bonner and Carlos Brathwaite making 20s, against Ryan Hinds and Jason Holder, who took four and three wickets each. At stumps, Barbados were 17-2, having lost Haynes for a duck and Brooks for two. Kraigg Brathwaite was the not out batsman.

Trinidad were in a strong position against Guyana, having reached 291-4 at the close, thanks to an unbeaten 134 from Lendl Simmons. Denesh Ramdin was with him on 32 not out, while Jason Mohammed made 67.

In their rain-affected match, the Leewards were reduced to 62-5 by the Windwards. Kenroy Peters has taken 2-12 so far, while Mervin Matthew, Liam Sebastien and Gary Mathurin have taken one wicket each. Jason Peters and Jacques Taylor are the not out batsmen.

Why is the team stuck with Sammy? Does he have an unbreakable, lengthy contract? Because AFAIK the captaincy is reconsidered on nearly a series-by-series basis.
Not for Sammy. He's captain until the contract ends. No series by series.

****. Suspected Kingston would be a batting deck from the rate at which Stokes and Woakes scored but was still hoping they'd be able to keep a first innings lead. Hopefully they'll hold out for the draw, chances are they'll meet Jamaica again in the final if they get there.

Shame. Had been really trying to get behind them to win the thing. Still, will settle for unbeaten at the top of the table.

More like joint leadership, at this rate....
:)
Brendan Nash topscored with 65 and there were 40s from Wavell Hinds and Chadwick Walton, as Jamaica made 376 all out to take an 18-run first innings lead over the England Lions with one day to go in their four-day match at Sabina Park. Danny Briggs took 5-121, while there were three wickets for Buck, and one each for Woakes and Harris. Pacer Jason Dawes then took the wicket of Lyth for just one, but Jimmy Adams hit 38 and Gale 57, before they both fell to spinner Bevon Brown, taking the Lions to 149-3 at stumps. The not out batsmen are James Hildreth (16) and James Taylor (10).

At the halfway stages of the other three matches, three teams looked poised to take command. Guyana were reeling at 137-5 in reply to Trinidad's 434-5 declared. Lendl Simmons hit 202 not out, and there were 60s from Denesh Ramdin and Jason Mohammed, while Jacobs was Guyana's best bowler with two wickets. In reply, only Rajendra Chandrika with 77 not out offered any resistance, as the remaining Guyanese batsmen, including the out-of-form Narsing Deonarine, fell cheaply to Amit Jaggernauth and Imran Khan, with three and two wickets respectively.

In a low-scoring game in Barbados, Jonathan Carter was the only batsmen to offer any resistance for the Bajans, making 99 in a total of 195 against the bowling of Kavesh Kantasingh 4-50, and two wickets each for Kevin McClean, Ryan Austin and Carlos Brathwaite. Set 173 to win, the CCC were 36-1 at the close, having lost Rommel Currency to Fidel Edwards for just one. The not out batsmen are Phillips (15) and Thomas (12).

The Windwards took command of their match against the Leewards, reaching 285-6 after two days, for a 213-run lead on first innings. Lesporis topscored with 86 and Fletcher made 70, while the not out batsmen are Kevin James (26) and Gary Mathurin (one) against the bowling of Tonge and Peters with two wickets each.

The England Lions, the pre-tournament favourites, and Jamaica, the defending champions, finished the group fixtures on 51 points each, to share third place in the Caribbean domestic four-day competition. Surprise package the Combined Campuses and Colleges scored the most points, finishing with 57 points, while Trinidad and Tobago were second on 52 points.

Set 275 to win, Jamaica hung on for a draw against the England Lions, reaching 184-9 at stumps on the final day of their final group match. James HIldreth hit 77 not out and Andrew Gale 57, as the Lions first made 292-4 declared, against spinner Bevon Brown with 3-96. Chadwick Walton hit 52 and Brendan Nash 49, but the rest of the batting fell away, while James Harris and Danny Briggs took four wickets each.

The CCC, a team packed with youth players striving to make the West Indies team, secured a five-wicket win over Barbados, Omar Phillips leading the way with 78 not out as they easily made 175-5. Nkrumah Bonner hit 32 as Kevin Stoute took two wickets for the Bajans.

Trinidad won by an innings and 45 runs, as they made Guyana follow on. Responding to Trinidad's 434-5 declared, built around Lendl Simmons' double-century, Rajendra Chandrika made 90 and Derwent Christian 51 as Guyana were bowled out for 216 in the first innings by Trinidad's spinners Amit Jaggernauth (5-41) and Imran Khan (4-66). Following on, Guyana could only make 173 in their second innings, Leon Johnson topscoring with 48, while Khan took 4-45 and another spinner, Yannick Cariah, snared 5-46.

Only one match is still going on, as the game between the Windwards and the Leewards enters today's final day. Facing a 246-run deficit on first innings, the Leewards have at least forced the Windwards to bat again, reaching 284-7 at stumps. Gavin Williams hit 114, while there were unbeaten 40s for Jacques Taylor and Gavin Tonge. Nelon Pascal, gary Mathurin and Andre Fletcher have taken two wickets each so far.

The England Lions will return home now to prepare for the county season, while the semi-finalists for the Caribbean domestic four-day competition have been decided - CCC, Trinidad, Jamaica and the Windwards. They take place on April 1-4, with the final scheduled for a week later.
