One performance All time world XI

Just a couple to think of :)

Jessop's ton in 1902

Clem Hill's ton circa 1907-08 when he batted down the wicket because of illness, score a 100 and kept throwing up on the side of the pitch throughout his innings.

Kim Hughes circa 81 when he faced a WI attacks on an uneven MCG wicket and scored a 100

Devon Malcolm against SA 9 of the best

Lillee against the world XI

Can't remember his name but he was a cousin of Sobers and scored a great 100 against England

Safraz against the Aussies in the 70s

Athlai

Not Terrible
Crickets a funny game tbh, that Chris Martin spell against India was some of the finest bowling I've ever seen. Johnson against South Africa is right up there as well.

Neither are really world class bowlers but those spells were just excellent.

Sangakkaras huge ton in Aussie deserves a mention IMO.

Hughes' 100* a lock for No.5, surely?

Kapil Dev's 9-fer(Innings) in Ahmadabad, '84 against the extremely strong West Indies batting line-up on a flat pitch with a broken knee worth a shout IMO.

hang on

would that be the collie smith who was killed in a car crash (with sobers in the car too...not sure if he was driving). sobers's attitude towards cricket and life in general changed due to that incident....perspective of 'just a game' and lets have a good time while we play became more pronounced.

David Holford:unsure:

It was against England circa mid 60s and he partnered Sobers in a match saving innings:)

I was thinking much the same thing. Butcher's innings was a helluva surprise.

Do efforts from superstars count?
Richard Hadlee:
Nov 1985 in Brisbane
15 for 123 including a 9fer (Hadlee took the catch that denied him the 10fer)
54 with the bat (strike rate 120)
NZ win by an innings & 54 runs.

Not many better individual performances....

Anil Kumble - 10/74 vs Pakistan. Very underrated bit of bowling I think.

Azhar Mahmood - 132 vs SA. Was in his debut series if I remember right. Great series for him on the whole against some top bowling on difficult pitches.

de Silva vs Pakistan. Has quite a few good ones against Pakistan I think. Always looked majestic against their fast bowlers.

Botham - 149* vs Australia. Never watched it but its quite a legendary one.

Hugh Tayfield - 9/113 vs England. Said to be a really fantastic bit of bowling.

Gooch - 154* vs WI. Really good knock I reckon.

Lara - 153* vs Australia. One of the best knocks I've seen.

Clem Hill - 188 vs England. Said to be a really good innings.

Bet Trumper had a few awesome knocks in his time. Bradman's 270 and Ambrose at the WACA would be obvious choices as well.

How about for a 1 match performance, Allan Border as an allrounder for his 11/96 against the West Indies at Sydney. Funny considering he only took 39 wickets in 156 matches and I think this might be the best bowling figures by an Australian captain. He also scored a typical 75 and 16* for that match...

His ton and 98* against the WI at their peak must be up there

Vinoo Mankad at Lord's in 1952 - playing for a relatively ordinary Indian team against one of the best ever England sides with Hutton, May, Compton, Trueman, Laker and Bedser.

In the first innings he top-scored with 72. During England's first innings, he bowled 73 overs and took 5 wickets for 196 runs. In India's second innings in that Test match, he top-scored again with 184 runs out of India's total of 378.
Edit - Despite opening, and doing so against bowling of this quality, he made his 184 in just over a session with 19 fours and a six. For comparison, England then chased down their target of 79 in an impressively turgid 49.2 overs.

Yes yes these nominations are all good but one innings is missing, the best innings of the whole 1990's- in my incredibly biased and 'i want to shag him' opinion- Greg Blewett's 214 vs South Africa.
