Jaya looks like he is a little out of nick. But, I still don't know why there seems to be no urgency here.
This has been going on for the past 5-6 years. A RR less than 4 in India is just pathetic, considering its medium pace nothing being bowled.
Ahh makes my blood boil watching senseless batting like this.

Ah yes, medium pace nothing bowling, the corner stone on which NZ cricket has been built.

Would say we're built on fast medium tbf. You're not likely to get picked for NZ as a specialist bowler if you can only bowl 125kph, unless your name is Brent Arnel and you take domestic wickets for fun.

135kph bang it in and hope there's seam movement in ****ty modern pitches is where NZ cricket is at.

Good first over from NcCullum.

Need a wicket, please, before these two start picking the pace up.

How else can you describe Oram and Styris bowling?
I'd call them a walking knee injury and a batsman tbh.

Have no idea what the pitch is like but I hear there is bounce and seam movement. That is right up Oram's alley.

But yeah, Sri Lanka are batting for lunch here.

?????????

Like Gavin Larsen, Murphy Sua, Shane O'Conner, Willy Watson? Trundlers to a man.

That near chance by Mahela may indicate that these two don't think there are a lot of runs in this pitch and that new batsmen will take a while to settle (especially if chasing runs). So, they will settle for conservation of wickets, batting through 50 overs, and getting a score of around 225 - 250 (tops).

These days*

And those guys are hardly cornerstones. Of ODIs perhaps, but when I think NZ test bowling then after Hadlee, Bond and Cowie I go the Cairns, Taylor etc route.

Though tbf I prefer to forget the post 2005 period ever occured unless we're talking about Bond, O'Brien or Martin scything through India.

TBH the lack of urgency is probably due to the lack of importance this match has. Batting practice, no need to strain yourself today. Though I'm not suggesting anyone is rolling over and shrugging the match off entirely, but the fact it's only for a position in the group when you don't know who you'd end up playing anyway makes it pretty meaningless.

watching this I am worried about playing England in SL, Swann would run circles around these guys on the premadasa pitch.

NZ need to avoid India in the quarters, so that means a win is needed right?
