Tbf, I think this discussion is actually constructive compared to what has gone on previously.
Haha yeah look, there's definitely been worse ones.

Having a look over the last few pages, there seems to be a couple of common themes. Firstly, a need for moderators to be more open in-thread about infractions or warnings given out. We're not too comfortable with letting everyone know how many points each poster has, so maybe instead of posting in-thread saying "you'll receive x amount of infraction points for this post,' something along the lines of 'this post will be infracted/warned' might help solve this. This is definitely something we can try to do.

Another one definitely seems to be a need for more consistency. With the system being new we're still going through some teething problems getting it all sorted out and so mistakes are definitely going to be made. Hopefully as we get more confident with the system, the mods will be able to hand out infractions independently and do it much quicker. Reporting posts that you genuinely feel are inappropriate does help us a great deal in this situation. Also, receiving an infraction shouldn't have to be a huge deal; basically the system is just formalising the warnings that were given in the past. Where a member previously might have been warned 3 or 4 times in the last 2 months and not realise that he's on his last chance, now he will and will hopefully pull his socks up so to speak. We're not throwing infractions at people just so we can be closer to banning them, but more to let them be aware of how they're going.

On this note, again, I'm not too positive on the situation but it sounds like a lot of people feel we overlooked a few equally inappropriate posts in the Overrated Players thread. We may well have done and if we did, that's our bad, but this is where reporting posts comes in handy. We might not have noticed the other posts, so if reports are made instead of throwing around insults, it makes it easier for everyone. Also a note that if you do receive an infraction and feel someone else should have as well, we do welcome the feedback but please do try to keep it at least semi-polite. I think it's pretty much natural that if someone's abusing you while also asking you to help them out, you're going to be pretty reluctant to do it. Yes, it works both ways and we have to put aside our personal feelings and try to be fair, but (high horse alert), at the end of the day we are here in our spare time and it's hardly a full-time gig (meant to be doing uni readings aws).

Just a reminder as well that direct insults, where obviously not in jest, are never going to be appropriate. Feel free to tell someone that what they're saying is ridiculous, but don't call them an idiot. Play the post, not the poster.

Adam, for your questions about calling other members ****s when in jest, it was mainly brought in because the Ashes sub-forum was basically getting unreadable. As long as it's nothing too excessive - and recently it seems to have been okay to me - it should be fine, but we'll have a look at it and try to tighten it up.

Finally, am also just finding it odd that we seem to have been accused of discriminating in favour of subcontinental posters, given that in the past it's pretty much been the other way round, that the mod team is too full of Western posters and are too harsh on subcontintental members. Just find it strange that it's done such a turn around.

What the hell happened to this thread while I went to sleep?

I hate getting asked to link to individual posts because it was an accumulative effort by numerous posters who spent the whole thread calling us a minnow, South Africa A, **** at cricket, it was ****ing hideous.
If that was a trollable offense, I'd have 75 million infraction points for trolling the Indian pace bowling.

Nothing Migara posted was worthy of being reported though; people are entitled to their opinions about players even if that opinion seems stupid. Where the inconsistency lies is that as soon as the discussion moved from Bradman to Murali (and I suspect the same would have happened with Tendulkar) then the moderators **** their pants and closed the thead. Everything Burgey posted on the last page mirrored exactly what Migara had posted about Bradman before, yet it was only Burgey's posts that got the thread closed. Which is nonsense.

Since when is posting stuff that's going to rile someone else not considered trolling?

There were a couple of posts you made in that thread, that if not trolling, were at the very least ****ing stupid posts to make in light of an already inflamed situation.

So people don't get riled up when I make GIFs, put stuff in my sig, and talk crap about all indian pace bowlers in every thread that mentions them? Trolling would be if I went in a random thread and said some crap about Indian bowling just to rile an Indian fan.

Making posts in the middle of a game between two teams involved and calling a player,a team, or a play stupid or minnow cricket, is generally not going to be trolling. If a person can't handle a team being called a minnow when it plays like one, then perhaps that person should refrain from reading match threads.

When the next Indian pace bowler comes on full of hype and bowls like a Bermuda 'C' bowler, I'm going to come out and say it. Even if that's in a close match thread. Sorry if that offends people's precious sensibilities.

You're an Indian fan though, there's a massive, massive difference between you doing that and me doing that.

Calling England minnows in ODIs when since 2007 we've beaten everyone except New Zealand at least once in a bilateral series and gone 18 months between losing 6-1 to Australia after both recent Ashes series without losing a series in any form of the game is moronic, and it is trolling. It's like me going into a thread and constantly calling Tendulkar an over-rated hack and a rubbish batsman. It's patently not true and is going to wind people up.

Exactly! Ftr, I made no such posts as I was away from the thread during the entire match. Afterwards, I came in and made one post, yes one post, on how I find "England to be a rubbish ODI unit." Which I also clarified to by my opinion, AND in the same post I gave much credit to England's performance in that game by stating it to be superb.

GIMH then came in with a major overreaction. And yet when G_S makes a post calling Indian fans wankers, it's all in good fun?

On top of that, like VCS said, it was a matter of minutes before I made up with G_S. Things were all sorted out very quickly, and PEWS is witness to that.

FWIW, I am very happy to see most posters backing me up, in this and the match thread, on this issue. GIMH & Co. had a few problems with trolling Indian posters, and because of my one post I get dragged into this. I find that quite ridiculous. Those posters and mods who have backed me up know very well that I am not one to make personal remarks and/or attack other posters. FWIW, I am quite happy with the moderating.

Also, c'mon guys, take a long hard look. You're getting worked up over an internet forum? I say we all relax, and enjoy life a bit. Go out, get some fresh air, maybe meet a girl or two, get her number. Or better yet go to the beach, sip some piña colada, and just feel the breeze on your face. Enjoy the beauty of life, instead of getting worked up over some moderating decisions on an internet forum. Or if the weather is good, go for a bike ride, go to the club, dance with a beautiful girl. Make love, not war.

And when a poster is playing silly, they get called a buffoon. Why should people get offended by that?

Because clearly, calling someone an idiot on the forum is different than calling Dravid an idiot for playing a stupid shot. Dravid isn't here and won't insult you back, and it won't lead to the thread going to hell.

Do you really want to go down the road of infractions when non Indian fans call the indian pace bowling rubbish and minnow during a match thread?
Ok, I don't expect to be infracted when India next play then, as obviously we've got the green light to wind up Indian posters by trashing their team.

Tbh, I wouldn't care one bit if you did that. Because as Indian posters, most of us know our team is not trash. And so any trashing you do do, atleast I speak for myself when I say, I won't be bothered by it one bit. But I'm only speaking for myself.

Look at it this way, it's like calling Brad Pitt an unfit, obese, and unattractive individual. He won't get bothered by it because he knows it's not true.

Oh btw, same goes for me, I am a pretty damn good looking guy. If that was said to me, I wouldn't be bothered by it either. :)
