Forum Rule Changes including Introduction of Infraction System

It'd be much better if we could see the number of infraction points the other person has or atleast a post be made by a moderator on the topic right after the offensive post pointing out that an infraction has been made(without specifying number of infraction points), IMO. Of course it means that there will be dicks(can't think of a less offensive term, soz) who bait people to post insults when they are on the verge of having too many infraction points but it's a small sacrifice to make for transparency.

Called it.

Immaturity aside for a sec, the stuff being raised here is what I was worried would happen when the infraction system was announced.

People weren't hating on the old system, they were hating on its application from the mods.

It doesn't matter whether you use an infraction system, the old system, or ten pin bowling. If the posters have an issue with how standards are being applied, changing the system won't work, because it is how the standards are applied by the human element that has been the issue.

And FWIW, I was really happy with the period just prior to the infraction system. There were no issues for several months, and the mods were doing a fantastic job. I found Matt79 in particular to be very helpful on one issue I raised. I haven't been paying much attention to site issues lately, just been dropping by to cringe at the NZ ODI side, but it is a shame to see things in the gutter again.

I'd just like to second what has been said by other mods, that we consider each reported post (or sometimes other posts we are concerned about) and try to give a balanced response.

In terms of the infraction system - that consideration is happening just as it did before the system was in place.

It's just that instead of us making notes about what we have warned a poster about in a thread under their name, an infraction/warning is given. As a consequence, instead of us looking through the poster's thread when an issue is given and decide whether on this occassion a ban is require, that is taken usually care of by the number of infraction points.

I understand that people may disagree with specific warnings and/or infractions they are given, just as previously people have disagreed when they have been warned and/or banned. And quite clearly we will make mistakes sometimes. That's just life. However, the system is set up so that you would have to receive somewhere between three-five full infractions for the kind of things we are talking about here - therefore one decision that you disagree with is not going to lead to anyone being banned.

I agree with Teja; keep the infractions hidden but mods need to still carry on with their 'in-thread' bollockings. I noticed EWS do this the other day but that's pretty much it.

I suggested this in my email to the mod team last week but like 90 per cent of my points it wasn't acknowledged in the reply.

Yeah, I think we're still intending to do this. I've done this a time or two, and I've seen others do so. An exception is that we don't do this when a thread has moved on, and we don't want to derail it back to the original argument, or whatever.

It certainly didn't happen when the lovely chap who attacked the size of my brain made his remark, the same guy who was called a buffoon - when the latter happened mods were all over it both in and out of the thread.

It's these inconsistencies that annoy people and lead to allegations of certain preferences.

Members should be held accountable for their behaviour but the mod collective never seems to take responsibility for anything. Too slow to ban a troll? Well the best way to fix that must be to infract the people who rose to the bait, thatll cover our **** turnaround.

Honestly, I've received emails and read posts stating that people are surprised with my recent posting. Must be because I woke up in a bad mood eh, lol

In fairness though, The bloke got banned on the same day, We don't know if he copped 10 infraction points for the post or none. Would be solved if the moderator mentioned that the post was against the forum rules right after the post(which I support) was made but you can't argue with the result. The guy got banned. You can't say he got away with inflammatory remarks just because he did not cop a mod bollocking him right after the post. It would be better obviously if the mods did do that but that's different from the issue of him 'getting away' with it. He survived on the forum for only a few hours as he was trolling non-stop.

I think it's important that we differentiate the allegation of inconsistency in handing out infractions and inconsistency in mod in-thread warnings. The latter might have happened unconsciously but the former did not happen, IMO.

Sorry mate, in theory everything you are saying is correct except the poster in question is Migara.

**** me, thought you were talking about the mallya guy in the match thread, so, I apologize.

I don't know ****all about the Migara issue though obviously he should have copped an infraction if he did make a comment like that.

Well of course he should. Its ****ing disgraceful that he didn't but as long as we don't call each other nincompoops or silly billies I'm sure the forum will run along nicely

I would agree that the current crop of mods is pretty damn good actually, more or less the best set I've seen since joining tbh, but the current system stinks, and it's not working.

High time I was made a mod in other words.
