After watching that, the one thing that really bugs me is that this game is essentially meaningless because of the format where the test teams get a free pass to the knockout stage as long as they don't lose to a minnow. It's basically six warmup games for teams like India and England, and we've just seen an epic contest that is worthy of any world cup and it has precisely zero impact on who wins the tournament.

Kinda sucks. Great game though.

Haha, stupid game.

I think we can safely conclude that there is no one stand out side who can claim to be nailed on to win the World Cup. Serious lack of bowling that is going to cause problems on anyone's side... except possibly Aus?!

Thought we had well and truly South Africaned that up. Fortunately we have sufficient Northerners in the lower order...
Haha, if it was fully SA team, it'd be a one run loss - this team means a tie - and if it were fully English, it'd be a win. Call it the choking spectrum?

Easy, you want games to be awesome in this World Cup, England should play more games. Thought we'd totally Saffied it so will take the draw. Particularly after the ridicule of us earlier in the thread, looks a tad silly now.:)
India fans must be so proud being unable to beat a minnow.

What a game. Thanks for the point Munaf you chump.
Yeah, smug bastards can suck it. Learn to bowl at home.

Haha no, we're thanking your middle order actually.
Yeah must be awesome being smug after not winning a D/N at home after posting 338. Joke is most certainly on us :p

We're gonna win the World Cup. India can well and truly suck it.

That's the point GIMH. Had it not been for your middle order we'd have lost. No Indian fan is delighted. We're thankful this wasn't worse.

I'd be very worried, you were at full strength and should have lost to a team i don't think have a prayer of winning it. Plus said team were without their best one day player.

India have a poor fielding side and a weak attack. Yes they bat as well as anyone but you need more than that to win a World Cup.

Ahhh pish. With the other mediocre teams in the tournament, all you need to win potentiall is a bit of luck, momentum and clicking at the right time. India talent wise have as much as any other team, it's whether they have the bottle and if they can click 2-3 matches. Lanka, Pakistan, Aus, South Africa don't make me quake in my boots. They can all be just as vulnerable in other areas.

Was waiting post this pic, but don't know who to direct it to? :p

Cant wait for the quarters, the top teams are so evenly matched the games are going to be insane.

Can't defend 338 runs and people still don't think we have a problem. Wow. I am happy that we got a point out of it, when I saw that Zaheer was done and we still had two overs and 29 runs I was almost certain that England were going to win.

I guess this is payback for the close games we've won against England earlier (Natwest Trophy final, 6th ODI in 2007). Not too bothered about the result as this is a group game, but man England are strong contenders if they can keep up this batting form.

This was a great match and a good advert for 50 overs cricket, which i believe still has a future in the game of Cricket

England should have won the game, but in a rare thing for Cricket the draw was actually the right result......

Whatever it takes!!!
Strauss motm definitely.
Nah... think I would have given it to Bresnan.. Looked a class apart out of all the bowlers from both teams.. And WTF was that decision to Bell for that LBW appeal.. One of the few moments in life when I felt something like sympathy for Waterboy..

That's the best you clueless bastards have played in years in ODI's and you still can't win a close game against a decent team!!!
Beefy's depression told the whole story. needed like 7 an over with 10 overs to go, 8 wickets in hand. Who's frikkin laughing?!

Both the non minnow games (sorry WI and NZ fans) have been good to watch. Think all thrilling games require their share of poor cricket tbh, so its not such a bad thing for the game to have a couple of misfields here and there :P

Yeah I know, hence the :p

That being said, I do think we should be the happier side, because 338 batting second away to the hosts and favourites is ****ing immense

Yes. A team that cannot defend 300+ runs has some major issues. Everyone knows that India's bowling/fielding is weak. They give away runs very easily, which is not good at all.

The first 25-30 overs of any match is important. If you can restrict the opposition from scoring good runs then you are doing a good job.

I guess England ended up missing Morgan's finishing abilities in this game, but if they rotate and find gaps as efficiently as they did today, it will be a huge boost to their chances. Was amazed with the ease with which Strauss and Bell were finding the boundary in the middle overs.

No matter who who are playing, what position the other team is in,to tie an ODI game after scoring 338 batting first would feel like 2 points gained for the team batting second, and 2 points gained for the team batting first.

I still think England will leave this match happier of the two teams.
