I agree Razzaq's was a sensational knock. But many of you guys seem to think 200 is a walk in the park. Or is it no big deal because Tendulkar did it?

I think people - and I think I have to include myself in that - tend to confuse how good the innings was with how good the match was.

VVS Laxman WAFG.
This.

Still can't believe he got 3 nominations in a year where Kallis, Tendulkar and Sangakkara batted brilliantly and piled on the runs. And the ass-saving 90 odd against NZ didn't even make it. A truly special performer. :notworthy

edit : Or what ankit said.
tests

batting : Vvs laxman's seventy odd at mohali.
Bowling : Dale steyn's seven for fifty-one at nagpur.

As for odis,i am going to go for shahid afridi's magnificent century at dambulla - we all know how hard it is to chase a total there under lights. As good as razzaq's innings was, he was helped by some abysmal bowling at the death from the south africans. Afridi was afforded no such luxury. In fact, he had to bat with pain for a large part of his innings, much like laxman did at mohali.

odis

batting : Shahid afridi's hundred at dambulla.
Bowling : I can't think of too many. Maybe umar gul's six for whatever in the second or third england odi.
the batting one is a no-brainer - michael hussey's knock in the semi-final. Not sure about the bowling one though.
3/6.

McCullum was doing ramp shots into the car park ffs what more can he do? Oh yeah against some of the fastest bowlers in world cricket Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes, Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris. 116* from 57 balls SR of 207.14.

YouTube - Brendon McCullum 116*(56) T20 v Australia
Definitely agree with your statement. M Husseys innings one of the most overrated t20 innings ever. When I first watched that innings my jaw almost literally dropped from my face. I could not believe my eyes. Husseys innings was built on the back of multiple long hops from Saeed Ajmal who was bowling into a severe breeze......you'd expect any international t20 batsmen to hit those for 6. But McCullum's ramp shot were from another planet and the stakes were high too as it was an Aus-NZ series.

No. I said Abdur Razzaq was unlucky because in the same year Tendy struck 200. In most other years Abdur Razzaq's effort would have been a shoo in for the award.

No-one attaches too much importance to a one-off T20 match, really. It is a bit hypocritical to claim there was more at stake in a random T20 match between Australia and New Zealand, than in the semi-final of the World T20 - the only T20s that actually matter- between Pakistan and Australia.

And no, this isn't me trying to play down McCullum's knock. It was good, very good. But, all things considered, it is a no-brainer as to which of the two knocks was better.

Can't really disagree much with the jury ... I might go for laxman's 73* at mohali one day and 96 at durban another day though ...

razzaq's unlucky his knock was in the same year that sachin hit 200

reader's choice though : raina's T20 century, really ?

All it shows is that a lot of the readers were Indian.

In all seriousness, it wasn't a bad innings. It helps that it came against a top side and in the T20 World Cup.

yeah, it was an excellent innings, no doubt. But not better than hussey's in the WC SF ... even mccullum's century was arguably better

Great knock, but that was a postage stamp ground mate.
Yeah indeed. Even Clarke made something like 60(40) off it. In fact I think the best innings of the match was White's 60 off 25 or 30 balls or something insane like that. Southee was bowling almost perfect yorkers, and White still managed to once or twice beat long on/off for four.
