***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Massive unknowns about Lyon's long-form bowling though.
Top wicket taker in futures last year or the year before. Took them at just under 40 which really isn't too terrible considering where games are played and the fact that he played for Canberra and took them when teams were still genuine 2nd XI.

The question isn't whether he's promising, more about team plans. As I said before, it'd be a more attacking move to pick Lyon and I'd like to see it. It's a good test to see whether the panel really has decided to take a few punts this season. If history and the forecast is any guide, I'm guessing O'Brien will line up tomorrow.

Gun finish. Missed Maxwells knock but came in to see some great death batting from Sids, and some dire dire death bowling from Hilf.

Well, apparently an absolute thriller happened today.
Absolutely amazing finish, MAXWELL!!!

I actually can't believe it.. It's funny how off the last ball of the Tasmania innings Wells missed the ball and it went to the keeper but they didn't bother running. At the time I was thinking that it's crazy how a player cares more about his average rather then helping his team possibly score 1 run, I then thought that it probably will not matter in this match as the Vics were 4/60 chasing a further 198 runs in 25 overs.

Incredible finish, one of the best domestic one day matches ever IMO.

Maxwell is a serious talent, watched him a bit last year, and saw him in the Hong Kong 6's, teed off there. Absolutely caned em tonight, brutal knock. Look out for this guy, he's very good to watch, not just a power hitter either, hits em clean and sweet.

Was happy to see maxwell finally do something for the Vics, he's batted all over the order and done nothing. I was starting to question why he's in the side....

word leaking out this morning that india won't let their players play in the Big Bash League, as it will take some of the shine away from IPL.

I am a death rider of T20 cricket (or at least of it getting any more time on the schedule) I will admit that. But, even leaving that aside, I can't understand how the BBL is going to be this great big cash cow that they think it is.

For the next few years (with the Future Tours Program locked in) Australia's international players won't be available for most of the BBL, which itself will be weaker than the Big Bash as 25 more players will be required to fill the two new teams. And with few indian players playing, how will they sell TV rights back into India.

Furthermore, with City based teams, and free agency, I just don't think the fans will relate to Dave Hussey playing for the Brisbane Buchaneers etc. I don't think Australians go for a 'franchise' model. We like to identify with teams, and players.

Should have just built on the Big Bash with those existing teams, and maybe a team from ACT and Auckland or Christchurch.

The problem with introducing an ACT team only in T20 cricket is the fact that if they had any good players the other states would just sign 'em up with the lure of Shield opportunities. Obviously it's different if all the players are redistributed for the competition anyway as we have with the franchises, but to just leave the current teams as is and stick the Comets in wouldn't work IMO unless they were introduced in the Shield and Ryobi as well (which I wouldn't be against, incidentally).

Yep, I'm not in complete disagreement with that.

I'm more saying that I just like the existing model (Qld players playing for Qld with a maximum of two overseas stars).

I'm not sure that having a Brisbane side (will North Queensland like that?) is going to add any more lustre to it from a fan's persepctive, and certainly I'm opposed to the team being populated by guys from interestate who don't even live here.

Keep the existing model, and focus on getting two really top line imports, and having the Aussie international players playing a few games.

Well the thing with Canberra is there's only...what...350k population? I mean it's harder to make the North Coast NSW side than it is to make an ACT XI.

Yeah, but it's basically a sneaky way to get another New South Wales team into the competition without compromising the integrity of having proper states and territories playing. Players born in New South Wales make up a stupid percentage of players with state/national contracts, and I reckon they'd be more likely to move to Canberra than any other capital city if they were to leave New South Wales.

We had a situation this season where Australia A players weren't playing Shield cricket because New South Wales had stupid bowling depth. At full strength, Cameron, Starc, Hazelwood, O'Keefe etc don't make the team, so when the Australian selectors decide to drop Bollinger and Hauritz, some of the best players in the country end up playing grade cricket. We've seen how the likes of Cowan and Christian have gone from not being able to make the New South Wales team consistently to being on the cusp of Australian selection after moving as well.

In shock attacking cricket news, SA have gone into a match in Perth with two spinners and made Kane Richardson 12th. **** me, did they replace the selection panel without telling anyone?
