Murali to be Australia spin coach

Whatever it takes!!!
I was thinking baseball pitching coach:ph34r:
Would have had a 1000 outs for sure.. :dry

BTW, since I do not follow baseball, how rare is it for a pitcher to get 1000 outs or whatever it is called and what is the average outs caused that most pitchers tend to retire with?

He might be able to help bowlers with is pace variation, flight and direction. Having said that, I dont think he's the best person for a coaching role considering that he's so unique. Aussies can learn from Warne instead..

No idea about baseball either mate, maybe SS could let us know:unsure:

We get it. Very original.

This is not the thread for this, please keep the chucking comments out of it. There is another thread you can post on if you want to discuss Murali's action.

Surely Murali supporters can take a couple of jokes? He was called for throwing and banning a couple of harmless jokes is not going to change that. However happy to comply, not that I was planning on making any other jibes at the expense of the greatest wicket taker in cricket history:)

Well every thread with his name has the same "jokes", and I really don't feel the need to derail this thread. Again, if you want to discuss the throwing incident, please post in the other thread.

1000 outs is not that much. It's difficult to say 'most' - the average pitcher doesn't stay in the professional leagues all that long.

If you mean the average decent pitcher, it's a lot lot more than a 1000.

For reference (this is the top 1000 all time out leaders):

Another way to say it, it's not uncommon to get ~450 outs in a season if you're having a really good year.

I think I made it clear in my last post I was not going to make any more jokes?

Although perhaps you were talking about posters in general:)

Just noticed that I have 10 000 posts up:cool:

I remember when I first came on here and some members had two or three thousand posts. I thought to myself, there's no way I'll be on here long enough to make that many posts:laugh:

Never say never.

Seems like quite a bit. Know next to nothing about Baseball. Whats the total number of outs possible in a single game?
9 innings, 3 outs per innings...27 outs per match. Considering they'll throw no more than 100 pitches a night, quite often less than that, it's fairly simple for a decent pitcher with a average length career to clock well over 1000 outs.

Baseball has their own version of the runout though, which I don't think is credited to the pitcher. Also I think it's called ground out.

Murali, WAG.

There are a few spinners who bowl to plans currently. Vettori, Swann, Ajmal the obvious names. Then there is Shakib, Nathan McCullum (albeit just in limited overs), and Randiv and Ashwin look like bowlers with a plan. Mendis used to set up batsmen quite nicely too.

I'd say Bhajji, but his plans look very simplistic (fire 10 balls in and toss up the 11th, or two overs of offbreaks followed by the doosra). Possibly due to all the flat pitches he and Ojha have been playing on.

Well no, but being proficient at what he's been hired to coach is his main (only?) qualification for the position. As he's pretty much unable to impart that to anyone else without his natural gifts I'm not sure his hiring is necessarily cause for Aussies to deck their halls with bunting.
Yeah, this.

David Saker and Ottis Gibson have arguably been better for England's bowlers than Allan Donald. While Donald was obviously the far superior bowler, that skill doesn't necessarily translate into coaching prowess.

AWTA. Murali knows HIS game out and out, but we are yet to see whether he understands someother players game as such. Putting yourself in the players' boots is an essential quality for a coach.
