Hmmmm, and now I think about it, I do wonder whether the team loses a lot with the bat if O'Brien comes out, Lyon gets picked and the challenge is thrown out to Christian to bat at 7 instead. A lower half of Christian/Richardson/Cassel/Lyon/George isn't significantly worse than O'Brien/Christian/Richardson/Cassel/George. It'd be an attacking move.

Massive unknowns about Lyon's long-form bowling though. With O'Brien you know exactly what you're going to get and that's valuable in a pretty inconsistent team with a few blokes who've been on the outer and only just coming back. Probably depends on whether the selectors are looking to take a punt or not. Hope they do. They took a few with the T20 side so hopefully it spills over a bit and they take advantage of some of the optimism about the place right now.

Yeah, that's gun. Would've preferred ACT and Geelong ahead of duplicate Sydney and Melbourne teams but it's a bit of a non-issue in the end. Shield staying as is with the final in tact too is awesome news. Stoked.

Abbreviating the Big Bash League to BBL makes me think of two things:

1. If you say it as a word, it sounds like bubble - ie it is not going to last
2. The BB makes me think of Big Brother - something that lasted far longer than I thought it deserved.

But then Big Bash League is such a terrible name anyway...

Common sense at last from CA. Anyway, I can't see how these so-called 'franchises' will be worth much at all without the international players. Big Bash crowds and ratings have declined this year and, absent the international stars, I just don't think the average punter will be racing to see city-based teams populated by non-household names, and futhermore populated by guys from interstate (free agency will apply) who have little connection to the region.

Dunno about that. Big Bash final packed out Adelaide Oval the day after the Big Day Out without Lee, Pollard, Ferguson and Tait and with a ton of virtually unknown/young blue baggers. The only genuine star was Warner, really. The final could have been a disaster considering all that was against it. If it's good cricket, it'll win out.

It's a nice, neat bit of cricket for the working stiff who can't get to Tests or see a whole ODI, tbh. Dunno how it'll go competing against said ODI's, though.

In the first 6, Klinger and Harris hit a few boundaries but once Klinger got out, Borgas and Harris just played the gaps before going hard later. NSW's wild swipes showed exactly how to lose a T20 match when they were cruising to a big total.

It's also good for young kiddies, many of which find a 7 hour ODI or Test day too much. However, I just can't see the future of the game being built on it if it doesn't appeal to cricket lovers, and I don't think it does appeal as much as Tests or ODI - not in Australia anyway.

Do you see India promoting the shorter formats aggressively at the expense of Tests if that happens? Personally, I don't agree at all..
