One name to watch if you're an IPL scout- Siddharth Chitnis. He's been tossed around by his IPL franchises for over three years, given little to no opportunities, but in a more steady setup, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he's been scorching the runs chart, with a double-century average and a strike rate over 153, with as many as 20 sixes so far. He may be pivotal in Mumbai winning the event, and surely a good find for IPL franchise Kings XI. If only he gets to play regularly in the frontline for them...
Elsewhere, Robin Uthappa has been going great for Karnataka, as also Rohit Sharma, less impressive but just inside the top ten. Unlike greenhorn Chitnis, these two have adequate experience to be pushing for ODI and T20I spots regularly for India. High averages and strike rates are the norm for the top ten this time, with the only distinct statistic being the number of sixes hit- three have hit 20, 12 and 10, while the rest barely make two or four.
The bowling charts have nothing to look at, except spinners Iqbal Abdulla and Amit Mishra. There's a medium-pacer from Jharkhand who's impressed in two games, while Sanjay Bangar is making a late charge this season as an all-rounder, while Rohit Sharma tries to prove he too can don a multiple role, but with many names unknown and little separating the top ten from the rest (clearer separation of top five), you can't take anything out of it.
A huge reversal for Rajasthan, the Ranji winners. They're at the bottom of the zone table, losing two bonus points. Mumbai and Baroda will go ahead from West, while Haryana are secured in North and TN, as usual, in South, with Karnataka standing a good chance of making the next level. It's tight in Central, East and the second spot from North.
