Mithun and Vinay Kumar have wrecked the South Zone here.

106/5 and Kaif retired hurt.

Badrinath's captaincy has been good too. They have had seperate plans for each batsman which have worked exactly.

What is also interesting is Brian Jerling is umpiring in this match plus it is being played with a Kokkaburra bowl rather than a SG one.

Bloody Hell !!!!

This Menaria chap is good too.

Has scored a blistering 61 batting with the tail here and still smashing them here.

Scored a Hundred in the Ranji trophy final too making it 3 consecutive first class hundreds in 3 matches.

And now seems heading to his 4th consecutive first class hundred.

Their seem to be so many batsman coming up at the moment .

Who would want to be a selector really?

If only there were so many good test fast bowlers.

South Zone all out 178 runs with Kaif not batting after being retired hurt.

Menaria left stranded at a brillant 78 not out . Gave the tail too much of the strike though ,who were really ordinary support.

In the other match the west seam in trouble too with 3 down including Pujara already at the score of 53.
Though Rahane is again unbeaten at 29 along with Jaffer.

A 164 for Mukund to follow up his first innings hundred for the South Zone in the second innings.

Amit Verma also got 148 and looked good.

After losing last year setting a target of 550 to a Yusuf Pathan special ,the South were not taking chances this time .
So they set a mammoth target of 770.

And already took 2 wickets of the Central with a score at 73.

In the other match Ravindra Jadeja scored a 170 for the West Zone to bring them back to the game and the match is poised evenly now . Sumit Narwal took a 5fer for the North.

Huge scores in little time seem the norm for the Duleep semis. And we have a result. South Zone have crushed Central by 551 runs. Vinay Kumar gets four, while there's nothing of note from the Central batting, then a man down with Kaif's injury. Youngster Ashok Menaria, meanwhile, is getting into shape for the forthcoming IPL with more rapid runs, and more sixes.

North have West on the mat, by tea on Day 2. North have crossed 400 again, amassing 421 at 4.73 runs an over, with Mithun Manhas gobbling 158 runs. Seamer Sumit Narwal scored yet another rapid fifty, and came back to take the sole pre-tea West wicket. He's having a good all-round match. The more famous all-rounder, Joginder, has had a dreadful game, with single-digit scores and only two wickets. Mishra's had a better game, though sixteen no-balls are a negative.

Ishant Sharma is bowling well without luck today, in stark contrast to yesterday's performance. He's generating decent pace, bowling unplayable deliveries, and is doing so much better than yesterday, but the no-balls still happen. Another worrying aspect is Mishra's poor form, as he's had no wickets this innings.

Badrinath dominated a strong NZ attack with 136, and there were breezy scores by Uthappa and Manish Pandey. Both the Karnataka batsmen were quite severe on the bowling, notably Mishra and Mithun Manhas.

Two bowlers to take note of are Sumit Narwal and Sreenath Aravind. Both are very accurate, make the ball talk, and are taking the most wickets despite lack of pace. While Aravind is a lot younger, Narwal's also a recognised batsman lower down the order for Delhi and North. He's hitting 125k with a little effort, but still chipping wickets. Neither have much experience, though both can play a few tours with India A.

South Zone coasting to a one win here.

Uthappa in the start smashed Ishant around.

Badrinath in the first innings really put South Zone in a commanding positions with a 136.WAG!!!!

Is the perfect replacement for Dravid at the moment.

Though i still won't drop Pujara for Badri at the moment.

Also it is about time Mukund gets a look in the Indian Setup . Specially in ODI's.

Have been saying this since Vijay was selected ,that he is a better talent for me that Vijay.

Another thing that is due is the selectors start to select Rahane in the ODI setup ahead of No-hit Sharma.
It has been about 3 times now that he has got selected strangely ahead of Rahane and fails every single time.

And Pandey after top scoring last time in the Ranji and being the 2nd/3rd highest scorer in the domestic season again this season ,is pushing himself too among the next lot of Indian batsman coming up ,which i always predicted he would do.

The Hazare ODI series has started already. A big match is underway between Mumbai and Baroda at Baroda, and another tight match on between Haryana and Punjab at Mohali. None of the matches are covered live anywhere, so check back later for final scores.

While some ODI grounds host the games, the Hazare Trophy is now rendered insignificant, purely because it is running at the same time as the World Cup.

One name to watch if you're an IPL scout- Siddharth Chitnis. He's been tossed around by his IPL franchises for over three years, given little to no opportunities, but in a more steady setup, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he's been scorching the runs chart, with a double-century average and a strike rate over 153, with as many as 20 sixes so far. He may be pivotal in Mumbai winning the event, and surely a good find for IPL franchise Kings XI. If only he gets to play regularly in the frontline for them...

Elsewhere, Robin Uthappa has been going great for Karnataka, as also Rohit Sharma, less impressive but just inside the top ten. Unlike greenhorn Chitnis, these two have adequate experience to be pushing for ODI and T20I spots regularly for India. High averages and strike rates are the norm for the top ten this time, with the only distinct statistic being the number of sixes hit- three have hit 20, 12 and 10, while the rest barely make two or four.

The bowling charts have nothing to look at, except spinners Iqbal Abdulla and Amit Mishra. There's a medium-pacer from Jharkhand who's impressed in two games, while Sanjay Bangar is making a late charge this season as an all-rounder, while Rohit Sharma tries to prove he too can don a multiple role, but with many names unknown and little separating the top ten from the rest (clearer separation of top five), you can't take anything out of it.

A huge reversal for Rajasthan, the Ranji winners. They're at the bottom of the zone table, losing two bonus points. Mumbai and Baroda will go ahead from West, while Haryana are secured in North and TN, as usual, in South, with Karnataka standing a good chance of making the next level. It's tight in Central, East and the second spot from North.

The Hazare Trophy is finally over, not that anybody noticed. There was virtually nothing to notice. All the stars were away. Weak teams had a field day. We saw semis consisting of Gujarat, Haryana, Vidarbha and Jharkhand. Only Haryana has seriously useful prospects, and were out in the semis. The tournament had a rather tame end, with Jharkhand crushing Gujarat, largely with aid from spinner Nadeem. A certain seam-up bowler, Varun Aaron, scored vital lower-order runs and then came back, pace cranked up, and sprayed the ball around, but still got some attention.

What significance does such an event really have? All games are played bang in the middle of the World Cup, a bang so loud you can hear it even within the din of the World Cup crowds. Not surprisingly, the quality of cricket was adversely affected, and mediocre teams came to the forefront, and no-name players ruled the roost. Neither the top run-scorer nor the top wicket-taker are India prospects, and against an A-team or frontline international players (Indian included), they'd fall apart. It would take a serious domestic cricket fan to turn away from the World Cup to these games. The BCCI needs to look at these drawbacks, and schedule premier domestic events carefully, so that the stars turn up, at least when it matters.

Completely agree that the Hazare Trophy did not get any attention because it was scheduled to coincide with the WC.

The semi line up was a surprise; some of the teams that participated were strong domestic outfits. Karnataka was at full strength but for Dravid who chose not to play. TN had all the big guns except Ashwin. Mumbai was for all practical purposes a full strength team - Tendulkar who would definitely not have played and Zaheer who most probably would have sat out were the only ones missing.
