*Official* England in Australia (2 T20 & 7 ODIs)

Ball Six 5.30am – What must Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus think? After four scores of 500+ in Test cricket, five of that top seven are playing in this match (and in the previous two) and they look unlikely to make 500 in series as a whole. It’s a different game with the pyjamas on, but it’s not that different!
Interesting point.

I didn't see a whole lot of Trotts innings, but I find it a bit surprising he's copping so much flak considering England didn't bat out 50 overs. Even if he could have scored faster he was the only player to actually do his job and score runs. Maybe he would have paced his innings differently if the entire team wasn't crumbling around him.

It's amazing that Trott didn't get a ton after coming to the crease in the first over.
I wonder when English fans will start to realize that he is a liability in their batting line-up. Yeah sure he got 84 not out and he was clearly the best batsman today, but at the moment he looks a far better play than he is if he were playing in a performing batting line-up. If England are to put up strong batting performances in the future, Trott will only halt the progress as it is almost a given that he doesn't ever play any aggressive strokes.

Rubbish, he could have upped the pace when he was with the tail, but clearly wasn't his intention.

Hopefully Hilf is thinking "Man I was crap in the Ashes." right about now.
he was thinking that but a quick phone call to Hilditch who re-assured him that he did a terrific job and it was someone else's fault made him feel better

Feels pity for the people who wrote this team off for the WC after the Ashes defeat. Australia will still be one of the team to beat in the WC.

As I said, I missed most of his innings, but maybe he eeks out another 20 odd runs with the tail if he starts slogging, or maybe he gets out and England end up 30-40 runs short of where they were after only batting 40 odd overs. The way you bat should change when your entire team is crumbling around you.

Just find it hard to believe when a team doesn't bat out 50 overs that the guy who was in from the first over to the last over is the one being singled out for criticism. There are 10 other batsman who batted considerably worse than he did today.

Then again that run out was pretty comical.

I thought he could've gone earlier (when Wright went was the time IMHO), but to criticise him for not being AB de Villiers is missing the point; Trott is essentially a fairly limited accumulator who relies on a few productive strokes for the majority of his runs. When we pick him in ODIs we largely know what we're getting.

Lots of runs scored slowly > no runs scored slowly (step forward Messers Prior, Collingwood and Yardy).

"The Ashes bowling attack did a really good job. They were trying their best."

Awta, he's doing a job atm around a non performing batting line-up but picking Trott is basically admitting that England will never put up a big total and all they're looking for are decent ones.

Well risks are the game in ODIs, this isn't a Test match. You would think a guy in great form and in like he was, aerial shots were definitely on.

Not really watched much of these games, not wanting to suffer one day burnout before World Cup starts. Looks like Prior for Davies was a mistake but heyho.

Lets hope we don't get any more injuries in the next week or so to end our World Cup chances before it even starts.

Yeah, this. It's an entirely different case to Clarke, Australia have other options that can do the same job only faster. England, to the best of my knowledge, don't.
