Said this at the start of the exercise ,and will reiterate that Knowing his reputation and rating on CW specifically will be very surprised if Viv Richards is not no.1 here.

Though i may not necessarily agree with it.

Glen McGrath has the most perfect record against most countries of any bowler I've seen. But I wouldn't rate him in the 5 best bowlers ever. In fact I'd rate Murali a better Test bowler than him.
You wont find a bigger Murali fan boy than me, but even I would have a hard time saying that.:-O

not just CWers but most cricket fans rate Viv as the no 1 batsman in ODIs.

Don't necessarily agree with that.

I post on a few other forums and there is a different opinion . Even in CW in the poll it was a split verdict ,but in these kind of things past players tend to get the upper hand for some reason when the question is not direct.

Really? What's their opinion and who's seriously rated as a better batsman than Richards in ODI''s?

It's no great knock against Murali that he never really hurt Australia that much. I regard Sachin Tendulkar the best batsman I've ever seen and one of the five best cricketers ever. But for years he was terrible against South Africa in South Africa. He's improved in that area since then, but it doesn't erase the fact that he did poorly against them regularly for years.

.
Actually he had 3 Test hundreds in SA by 2001 (1 in each tour). Thats quite decent, considering the great bowlers he always faced and the lively pitches that the Saffers virtually always prepared for India (to expose them).

In that same period between India and South Africa players both there were just 2/3 players from both sides who averaged more.

I did the stats a time back.

The games between India and South Africa used to be low scoring due to them preparing green tracks specially against India to exploit the weakness in facing Bounce and swing among some players as well as having no good pace bowlers.

Where did you read this, TendyLovingCare.com?

Oh and by forum I meant thread.

First bit was a joke, can understand Tendy being considered the best. Had him at 4, i think. Second best batsman IIRC.

That is a very important indicator of why Pollock isn't as great an ODI cricketer as his stats would have one believe, IMO. If one can't quickly think up a few superlatives or highlights for a players career, it has more to do with him than the writer.
Haha yeah perhaps. I was going to talk about his one day century but even that was against an Asia XI team. I always rated Klusener higher.

I had Pollock in 17th place, I knew he would be higher.

BTW I have no idea why anyone is mentioning the bad T word (Tests) in here, it means nothing in this exercise..

I think I'll post 5th to 3rd next - it will be later on today. Still a bit of discussion could be made about the 10 players that I wrote about yesterday..

Can anyone understand why some of the names just gone like Murali, Bevan etc didn't get closer to 30 selections out of 30? Just people not rating a particular player, trying to get their favorite higher or just plain forgot?

Probably wanting to get their favorites higher.

Though depends if they left out some of the other top players too.

if you asked someone out of the blue to write the top 10 odi players. without given time for much thought you list would more than likely be different if you were given the whole day to think about.

Yep that's why I gave everyone a week and got everyone to help with the qualified list, that way there was no real excuse for forgetting someone.
