They were still one of the best, if not the best ODI side in the mid-late 90s. Performances against them are far more relevant than performances against India.

Thats like saying runs against ind now are far more relevant than runs against eng & rsa

One reason why Murali had more success than Warne is because he was tougher to play when you were trying to settle down. This helps him because ODIs are shorter. This is just like what Lara said about Murali and Warne in that 2 minute clip.

Saqlain was awesome in ODI's but he had a short career.

Murali was very good too ,but had a much much longer career.

It is clear cut between these two for me ,and very very close ,but will go for Murali as he did it longer and in more varied conditions.

Post 1995 India's batting was significantly stronger than Pakistan I would say. Ganguly, Dravid were beginning to come into their own

Dravid was pretty bad in ODIs for the first few years, before he became extremely good. Ganguly consistently kept failing against the best sides. Sachin kept us afloat against the best teams, only for the rest to let him down. We really weren't that good as a unit.

Poor Ishant, he is so unlucky (that's what they all say). This unlucky kid had a typical bad day against NZ in the first ODI and I hope he goes on to have more bad days until Dhoni has the sense to get rid of him. The best thing would be for him to average more than Malcolm Sami. That would be wonderful.

Already does in ODI cricket, amazingly. But yes, in tests, he has a good chance of being our 4th 50+ average legend
