Albie's a good solid #7 IMO.
He has been very disappointing for SA, though continues to deliver domestically. He was supposed to be the new Klusener, but isn't. The side that played the first ODI had a very long tail, but they picked for the conditions, and it paid off. Faf needs a start, good batsman and a better bowler than Albie. Botha at 7 will never work in the WC.

I wouldn't really mind picking him as a specialist finisher at 7 if his form with the bat was a bit better but the problem with playing Albie is that Smith always gets tempted to bowl him.

Albie surely could have been better than Ingram, IMHO. Move Miller to No.6 and keep Albie as No.7

WTF.. juz found out Albie Morkel may not make the RSA WC squad.. It is stupid. They are gonna rue this decision.. The guy is real value in ODIs...
Yeah, I agree completely. I know there are a lot of South Africans who grew pretty frustrated with him, but he's someone who I think could lift to the occasion. Furthermore, given they have Kallis and Duminy in the team to bowl, and AB is keeping, he's pretty much a perfect fit for #7 anyway. His definitely serves up some pies and he shouldn't be relied upon to get through ten like South Africa were trying to do with him before, but as a partnership breaker or someone to share ten with Kallis and Duminy, he'd be fine. He'd also help if South Africa wanted to play Tahir and his domestic bowling, UIMM, has been quite good.

Obviously it's his batting you'd pick him for, though. I know Miller's had a pretty good start as his replacement in the role but I'd back Albie to do better in the role just on batting alone. I can understand not having him in the first eleven but he should certainly be in the squad IMO and that he's not even been given a lifeline in this series is disappointing.

What? Ingram is batting at 3 in place of Kallis. And Miller has been batting at 6.
When you have Kallis in Duminy in your top six, you don't really need five specialist bowlers and Botha batting seven. I'd like Miller or Ingram at six, Albie at seven and Botha at eight.

Conditions are so different to the ones the world cup will be played in, so it's difficult to gauge. SA went into the first ODI with a lengthy tail, but on that track it was the right decision.

Albie has had more than enough chances, and hasn't delivered.

Wish they'd throw Tahir in the team. And Faf. Faf at 7 is no mug.

Thats exactly what I meant. With Kallis back @ No.3 you just need one of Ingram or Miller @ No.6 and a game lifter / changer like Albie @ No.7

Miller looks like a better future prospect than Ingram from the look of it so I'd play him @ No.6 ahead of Ingram.

I hope management go ahead and move Raina back @ No.4 as well. There is no point having him & Sharma as No.6 / No.7 ( MSD batting @ No.5 )

I watched a bit of Faf when he played at Lancashire. He was absolute quality, fantastic LO batsman, but my impression (and what seemed to be the consensus around those parts) was that he's a top order batsman who's at his best when he gets the opportunity to play himself in.

I guess you can say that about almost anyone, players who can slog from the moment they arrive are exceptionally rare. But if you're going to pluck out someone for the floating/finishing role Albie used to do, I dunno if he's the guy.

Would love to see him do well though.

He's 29 years old now. Surely he needs to be contributing more than he typically does at this stage.

He's very expensive, is not a wicket-taker, and adding a quick 20odd usually. A squad player perhaps, but those numbers for WI would not guarantee him a spot, let alone for SA.
