Is it too early to declare Dale Steyn as an all-time great?

They were pretty lucky shots.

Honestly, in tests, who cares about his ER if he can pick up 5/75? It's really a poor argument to detract from his bowling
Yeah, definitely. Just commenting on the change in his style of bowling.

That's unplayable regardless! The ball's heading straight for the middle of Kallis's bat at 90mph, then at the last minute it's like "bollocks, there's a bat!" and swerves rapidly to avoid it, clattering into the off stump.

That video doesn't actually show the best replay. That was an absolutely epic match.
Man, Kallis isn't a bitter ****, and even he was pissed off after he was dismissed because he couldn't pick up the ball.

It's amazing bowling, of course. It's unbelievable. But Kallis was at a disadvantage due to the fact he could only see the ball late.

No doubt, but you don't stop those regardless.

Steyn’s economy rate still troubles me. I think he should stop taking wickets every 39 balls and concentrate on bowling more maidens. Anyone agree?
I'm guessing you're being sarcastic? ER doesn't matter in the context of that amazing Strike Rate. Sure, he's conceding more runs, but he's also doing so for fewer overs and giving his batsmen more time to make up those extra runs conceded, if any (after all, he's still averaging less than 23 or thereabouts).

My dad still tells me stories about Bland's astonishing fielding - but surely Faulkner is a better shout for that side? One of SA's top 3 cricketers of all time for mine.

Many "unplayable" deliveries have been negotiated before, sometimes purely by luck. Maybe Kallis would've edged it and it could've fallen short. If the batsman isn't seeing the ball, every other delivery can be a wicket-taking one. Ridiculous IMO that - make the sidescreen the right size, FFS - how hard is it? Imagine Tremlett bowling there!

LOL @ those comparing Steyn to Bradman.

I do think he's an ATG tho, but in the McGrath/Ambrose league, not the Bradman league (of one)!

Bradman's record is like running the 100 metres in 6 seconds.

Sreesanth's ball to Kallis in 2nd test?

Plus ,Sreesanth's ball to Prince in the first innings swung more than that ball to Pujara too and was awesome too.
Sreesanth does get excellent swing, and his seam position is just about perfect.

Now if he could stop bowling at the 6th stump, he might really get going.

I think he is more in the Waqar?Wasim league than Ambrose/McGrath league

The rate at which he is going,he can pretty well be the topmost.

Since there are no similar calibre of bowlers playing in this era (with Asif in trouble and Bond retired) he will pretty easily win the how did you compared to your peers argument by Bradmanic proportions.
Not really. Considering Swann has an average of 25.
