on the other hand, it's the first time we've ever lost three Tests by an innings in the same series

all to a team ranked just one place above us

it may not be the worst team, but certainly one of the worst performed
Well, that's so, but those sides were riven by WSC and Rebel Tour defections. Not so here. Everyone available.

Very, very poor.

This England side is miles better than the 86 or 78 teams though, gotta give them credit.
They are a good side mate.

But I'm not going to cop (and not directed at you) this thing where...

"oh we've got to all acknowledge how great England are, get down and suck their ****, and avoid at all costs taking credit away from them by not saying how utterly **** Australia have played".

We have been disgraceful, absolutely ****house.

One team playing well, and the other team playing **** house is not always connected.

Full credit to England, but gee I don't think they're as good as we've made them look.

As much as I admire this England side for their professionalism and quality of play, what kind of takes the gloss off the win is how poor Australia were. Certainly the Aussie bowling this series was no better than the likes of Bangladesh. Credit to England on a comprehensive victory but much tougher tests lie ahead.

I think this illustrates pretty well the problem some freakish players in any sport have being coaches. Warne had that much talent, he could just turn up and do it. I mean, though it's only a TV show, check out those Cricket Show sessions he did live to air, straight from the comm box and didn't bowl a rank ball in any of them.

He's headstrong too, and combine that with ridiculous talent, and I think you get the "well I never needed much coaching and using computers.." stuff. Well, no you didn't. But the mere mortals do.
We've got India coming up in the summer - I'd be outraged if there wasn't someone in England's backroom staff who's been analysing Sehwag via HawkEye, spiders, pitchmaps, as well as watching footage of him and working out

  • Where he scores his runs
  • How he scores his runs, ie what balls does he hit, where does he hit them to
  • How he's getting out

and then go to David Saker and tell him what his strengths and weaknesses are. That's a perfect example of why you need "computer people". Where the cricket people come in is to then use that information so that the bowlers know as much about Sehwag's game as possible, and then can work on their plans for him. There's no point in the two working independently of each other.

I mean, three months ago we almost (by just five runs) drew a Test series with the best team in the world in their own backyard.

We grossly underperformed here.

Yep, I think England would almost be disppointed/amazed/hollow with, how easy attaining one of the holy grails of Test cricket (beating your Ashes opponent on their own turf) actually was.

tbh, I get the feeling Warnie's a bit selective about how much help he's had over the years, scientific or not.

I think Warne's op might be a bit biased based on his experiences with Buchanan. Obviously, you need to have some technicians who can provide the kind of computer analysis required to improve players and I am sure England utilize it a fair bit in their preparations. However, as a player I'd be far more inclined to hear such suggestions coming from Andy Flower's mouth than Buchanan's.

Australia is now in under pressure because of Australia lose the Ashes series in last 24 years. England beat Australia in fourth Test at Melbourne and regain the series. The 5th Test played in Sydney, Australia must win the that game to draw the series.
Spot on mate. Really hoping we can sneak home late day five here and square the series.

England faced a pretty weak opponent this series, and thats why they won 3-1, but they showed class by winning by an innings each time as well. They have a real chance of getting number 1 and staying there a bit, in the next 1-2 years. South Africa will be there competition. 2013 will mean Sehwag (34) Dravid (39) Laxman (38) Khan (34) Tendulkar (39). what a shame.

Fair but it can backfire. Good player doesn't necessarily = awesome coach or even good advice. Greg Chappell, for example.

Well yes but whilst not all good players make good coaches, I think someone with almost no cricket experience a la Buchanan simply is in no position to be dispensing advice to others. The same goes with all the 'technical experts' who have basically only held a ball while having an orgasm in their bedroom.
