Baroda are missing their two top players this time for the semis- Yusuf Pathan and Munaf Patel. Karnataka, on the other hand, have just missed Dravid, who has not got a game this season. Yet, Baroda seems the stronger side, with Karnataka in trouble at 96/8, with Murtuza Vahora getting five. Karnataka's preparation has largely been hampered with flight hassles and Vinay Kumar's poor health.

The TN/Raj game is on TV, and it is boring. Chopra and Saxena have built a solid partnership, with Chopra again playing out a lot of dots, and Saxena not doing much better, playing out more, but also hitting more to the fence.

Karnataka all out for 107, and promptly afterwards, Baroda are at 44/5. They are without Yusuf Pathan. I wonder what kind of pitch they're playing on.

Little wonder that this pitch for the TN/Raj game is a docile strip, with no TN bowler getting a wicket. Rajasthan are at 141 for no loss.

And what are the fans watching on the tube? A boring, high-scoring, wicketless match! Rajasthan are at 171-0.

Their batting, primarily Chopra and Saxena at present, is doing well, but you wouldn't expect them to bowl TN out even for a lead, let alone a win.

Woudn't actually put it past Rajasthan to bowl out TN for a lead.

Chahar and Pankaj Singh are a real threat this season.

It seems a tactic of them this season to play on flat tracks and get the points on the basis of a first innings lead With effective bowling.

Badrinath doing it again for Tamil Nadu with a unbeaten 87 at the end of the day in the Ranji Semi's.

Has really dominated and decimated the Ranji Trophy scoring charts yet again and played big knock after big knock.

If the selectors do not give him another chance in the Indian team they really are fools.
You can't ignore that record because he looked bad one innings to Dale Steyn. FFS!!
Still has 4/5 years of Cricket if not more left in him.

Now, Robin Uthappa has complained about the pitch. The complaint, it seems, is now official and submitted to the match officials. The last minute change of venue by Baroda has been viewed by some as a cheap trick to surprise Karnataka and catch them on the wrong foot. Then again, those who have watched the match say that the Karnataka batsmen showed complete lack of application.

Even as I speak, Pankaj Singh has knocked the timber over to send back Vasudevadas, leaving TN at 222/4. Fielding of both teams has been good in this run-heavy, short-of-wickets semi-final, completely the opposite of that other game. Here, it seems, it's less about winning the game than first gaining the lead, then finishing on a superior run rate, and then gaining the lead again.

Deepak Chahar is getting excessive swing, at times unplayable. He's kept it tight, which is a good sign for someone of reduced pace. This may provide food for thought, especially when you've got faster bowlers playing for India and around. Then again, he needs to add some pace- he's regularly clocking the 125k range, which will amek it easier for the superior batting sides to play him out. Age is on his side, and he can eventually add some muscle over time and eventually, serious pace. Addition of pace, though, should be the priority for India's top seam-up bowlers, Chahar's experienced teammate Pankaj Singh included.

Badrinath fought big time and ended at 175 not out (WAG),but to no avail as the rest folded and Rajasthan are through to the final.

He tops the run scorers list in the Ranji Trophy AGAIN, is it time to give him another shot at Test cricket? Pujara has done similarly to Badrinath, against the same opposition. However, Badri has a better domestic record proven over a longer period of time.

By the way, why did Tamil Nadu have to play out an over in the 2nd innings?
