Just wondering what Ponting must be thinking seeing a decent start finally put together in the game he's injured!!

Hughes really still at the crease here. Liking it (cue jinx).
Ponting's come in heaps recently after impressive Watson-Katich starts (which I think averaged 50 together for over a year) and still did poorly. Wonder what Ponting will be thinking whilst Khawaja is batting though :p

Khawaja must be loving this. One of the only (the only??) times we have had a good start.

Didn't help in the Melboune or Adelaide 2nd dig.

I'd be surprised if he did anything other than wish him well tbh.

Yeah and no reason Ponting can't come back even if Khawaja does well, will contribute more to the team (albeit down the order) than Smith, surely.

Although if we use that criteria in selecting the Australian team, you'd have a whole lineup of suitable candidates

Because Ponting is still there and didn't bugger off shows that he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon.

A little Cricket Web wager on when the first mention of England's retention of the Ashes is used as a reason for not taking a wicket?

Smith at seven today apparently, Haddin at six. A good thing I think.

This is a case of whoever blinks first. If England get a bit down, we can begin to fill our boots but if we lose concentration things could fall apart pretty quickly.
