Ponting's come in heaps recently after impressive Watson-Katich starts (which I think averaged 50 together for over a year) and still did poorly. Wonder what Ponting will be thinking whilst Khawaja is batting though

Yeah and no reason Ponting can't come back even if Khawaja does well, will contribute more to the team (albeit down the order) than Smith, surely.

Although if we use that criteria in selecting the Australian team, you'd have a whole lineup of suitable candidates
