Tell Brendon he's the designated 'powerplay' batsman, he's got a license to use the batting powerplay to best effect. If he gets going around the 30th over it would be nice. Pete and the bowlers wouldn't need fielding restictions to go the slog in the later overs.

Oram's bowling is pretty rugged. Imagine if we played him instead of McKay and Southee then we would bat down to 11...

I don't trust Franklin as a fifth bowler. He was crap at ODIs when he was a good bowler and I don't trust him with ten overs now. When you have Oram at seven and Vettori at ten you can afford to go in with five and a half genuine bowlers.

I think looking at recent results the team just needs to have a better plan. The problem with the batting has been it just comes across as totally aimless, the players look lost.

The top 5 need to set a platform. I like Taylor at 3, Styris at 4, and Franklin at 5 - This gives Taylor and Styris the chance to build a big innings and bat through, and Frankie can work the middle overs well and hit a long ball later. Send in Brendon at 6 and look for him to use the powerplay. Pete's role is a late over specialist; give the opposing captain a headache with field placings. If we have a top-order collapse, captain Dan or maybe NMac/Oram comes in before Brendon to help stem the rot.

Yeah this sounds like a really good option (batting Ryder at 3). NZ's batting depth in ODI's is astonishing.

Well we need to find someone to take that position and make it their own, I honestly believe that's where all our inconsistency problems start at the moment and until we find a permanent option we'll continue to be an inconsistent and average one day team.

No, because I don't like relying on part timers and poor bowlers to get through ten overs. I'd like us to use five good bowlers and have a good sixth bowler in Franklin who can rip out some wickets on his day with left arm swing bowling.

Ideally he'd get his bowling mojo back and be a world class test allrounder, but that's probably not going to happen.

Yeah I like this team; I'd opt for Styris at five and Franklin at six at this point.

If Oram's out (which is 99% of the time), I'd slot either Williamson or Elliott in at five, move Styris to six and Franklin to seven.

Get Franklin to bowl 2 or 3 overs with the new ball up front where he has the best chance to utilise his one and only skill: swing. If he gets smashed, so be it. Bring Southee on and other bowlers can cover him. I think that's the way they're thinking right now.

Thought about swapping around Guptill and Ryder but stuck with the status quo. The only problem is Guptill coming in against quality spin.

Hopefully the selectors pick a batting order and stick with it throughout the series against Pakistan. I would like to see Milne get a go in a couple of ODIs.
