How to popularize Cricket?

To popularize cricket it needs to have dedicated Board. Now USA has got loads of Money 9M USD for 3 years. It is loads of money. If they manage it well they can make a team of Bangladesh / Zimbabwe level.

But is most likely case they will just mismanage and team stays in the same condition.

You do realise that it's about more than just the money available to a board don't you? There's a little thing called talent that's pretty important.

Yes Totally agree with you. What I wanted to say is that USACA has got a chance. If the money is well spent they easily can reach BD, Zimbabwe level. If they are able to reach school's and get local talent, they will have a team of that level, but going by USACA exp, I think they will be more focused in having that money in their accounts

If you expect them to go round schools then $9m is peanuts.
The annual Budget of Bangladesh Cricket Board is 2 M$. What US has got is more than that. If I consider budget of Zimbabwe that is nothing in front of these.

Now the second question is USA is so bigger than BD hence the scale of money is lost, but we shud also remember that USA the per capita income is much higher. That actually makes more percentage of people available as a pool rather than BD where majority of the people are below poverty line and their major concern is food

Thirdly USACA has got like so much money as compared to earlier state. If they can make something out of it, they surely have the potential to reach the level of BD or Zim

Lastly money however it comes it always peanuts, always less, it is wat u make of it

$2m in Bangladesh would go a lot further than $9m in the USA, and that's before you consider that there's actually interest in cricket in Bangladesh that the USA just doesn't have.

The purchasing power parity of $ in BD is 4 times more than USA. Hence if compare 2 M$ in BD to 3 M$ in USA it is Actually 8 M $ V 3 M $. And yes BD has more interest in Cricket than USA, but let me bring my point again, sports Pool in USA is more than BD due to per capita income (Any doubts just do a google on Maslow Theory of needs), as in BD most the people do not think abt sports but rather what they shud eat

Secondly cricket in popularity is not at absolute bottom. If u consider the hits for sports it comes after Baseball, NFL, Ice Hockey & Basket Ball!!! I was surprised to know that. Then going to schools is not as costly. If it is successful in some parts and people take up, it will have an cascading effect. It is just a trigger that is required

Make Test wickets variable, this will increase intrigue as games will be less predictable, more exciting and not favour any single team in world cricket as all aspects of cricket will be tested and we'd really find out who's the best batsmen for different conditions. Wickets around the world should be the following:

40% pitches should be even contest between bat/ball
20% wickets should be flat (reverse swing/double centuries)
20% spinner friendly (sub continental flare)
20% seamer friendly (bravery)

Have world t20 every two years and continue integrating teams like afghanistan and ireland into tournament as t20 is the shortest format and represents best chance for minnows to be competetive. If minnows do well, then that country will prioritise cricket and its youngsters will want to play the game. This will gradually result in increasing the global appeal of test cricket.
As long as you promote test cricket as the pinnacle, provide wickets in the ratios above, then everyone will always see test cricket as the peak of the sport.

Give the IPL a window and let it be the showcase domestic league of world cricket and let one off outstaning players from canada/usa/afghanistan play in it and thus widen appeal in those countries.

Make a feature hit US film with a cricket story line.

IPL surely with its glamour, controversies and showcase will attract attention and help cricket being noticed. Some 1 or 2 more glamorous leagues and cricket spreads more with youth trying to pic it like some Indians follow Man U to showcase themselves as westernized.

Let's eliminate the old image of cricket being "baseball on valium", cucumber sandwiches and other nonsense!

Show the world what excitement happens in a game of cricket - the classic catches, the cartwheeling stumps, batsmen dancing down the pitch or fending off wicked bouncers... Surely this stuff could be shown in general sports shows' plays of the week.

Follow this up with a weekly highlights show, 1 hour showing the best of cricket from around the world. This would need to include coverage of associate cricket, letting people in these countries be aware that they actually have a team!

Australia v PNG would be an absolute joke of a contest. Australia would probably send out a mixture of grade cricket hacks and 17 year olds and they'd still win by 150+ if they batted first.

Prince it is ok even if both Aus and NZ send their A teams or Junior teams while Aus may be playing a series in SA and NZ in India. These 2 teams would be playing the best non test team in EAP region (Teams in EAP are PNG, Fiji, Vanuatu, Cook Island, Japan, S Kor, Indonesia, Tonga, Samoa, Philippines). It would be good motivation for the winner say PNG or Fiji and if the tournament would be held in say Fiji or PNG, then it will bring in some focus, maybe a little money for the boards.

The OCEANIA CUP can be easily a 2 day tournament

Day 1:- Aus V NZ (Morning)
NZ V PNG (Evening)
Day 2:- Aus V PNG (Morning, and PNG would be mauled, but PNG fans get to see real cricket stars and PNG players get exposure)
Finals:- Aus V PNG

In Rugby Union, they allow such tournaments and Rugby Union certainly is doing good too.

Thing is... It was always meant to be a gentlemens game (barr Kallis). People want to be 'playing' cricket rather than 'watching' cricket. Countless friends have stayed away from me after I offered them to come see a game, because it was 'too boring'.

But It's like Microsoft and Apple. Microsoft is Test and Apple is 20/20. Microsoft has been dominant for so long but now Apple is in control because there is more 'appeal' in Apple. I'm a Microsoft fan and always will be but it isn't meant to be a 'cheap game' that everyone can play. It'd what makes die hard cricket fans so awesome and why they find it so amazing.

Prince PNG is not that bad a team as people suspect. Cricket is second most popular game there. They have always had professional coaches. They have Andy Bichel as their coach.

Last year in Div 3 they defeated Afghanistan and lost by just 1 run to Ugan.
PNG, Uganda & Afghanistan had equal points. Ugan and Afg qualified on Run Rate. PNG just missed out.
We know how Afghanistan have done. They played 20-20 WC, and did not have joke of a contest. Yes one sided, but not joke. Ugan also have played a quad 20-20 series with Pak, SL, Ken in Ken. They played decently coming third in the tournament and again decent playing.
PNG are a team of equal potential, who missed last time due to their luck
