Tendulkar's best 100?

I like some of his more recent knocks tbh. They show a lot more maturity, grit, determination and a slightly improved technique. I think he constantly analyses his game and works on improving. Hard to pick one century in particular though. He's scored lots of good knocks.

Madras vs Pakistan and one of his earlier hundreds in SA where he had an amazing partnership with Azhar.

He played with a back problem in the innings and was pretty much out of it and so fatigued by the humidity in the end when he got out.
Even taking all that into consideration, I think it's a valid criticism of the knock that he didn't see India home.

Same way that a valid criticism of Ponting's knock at Old Trafford in 2005 is that he got out with 4 overs left. Had McGrath or Lee not survived those 4 overs, it would have detracted a bit from Ponting's innings.

Both innings are great innings despite valid criticism though.

Sachin Tendulkar's 50th Test century: My Favourite Sachin Hundred | Specials | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

Amazed by the consensus from his former team-mates on this - I'd expect a few more of his innings to be mentioned given that there's 50 to choose from.

So what's your favourite Tendulkar ton?
The Perth one... Don't think he can master that innings.. 18 year old.. fastest pitch.. world class bowling.. clueless batsmen around him.. And he plays like a champ.. For sheer batsmanship, that was his zenith.. :)

His 169 against SA was a pretty good one. But somehow the 155 in Chennai will always remain special for me.
There was a 150 odd he made in BLoemfontein.. Viru's debut test. THAT was the nexxt best in terms of pure quality batsmanship AFAIC.. Right up there with any display of any batsman.. AWesome batting and most importantly, it was the aggressive Sachin that night. Not often, that he is gonna outscore Virendar Sehwag. :)

Didn't mention the 136 earlier but it was a total masterclass. I was in the crowd that day and what a day that was. He was in great pain and after every over he would be stretching and grimacing. Mongia played a stupid shot to get out after a brilliant partnership and Sachin simply had to go for it with his back getting no better and total wimps as batting partners. I wouldn't blame him for this dismissal but I do blame him for the 175 game.

He can't be blamed for the 175 game. 18 off 18 required and who loses us the game? Yeah you guessed right, Ravinder ****ing Jadeja. Blame that ****.

Nah, the 136 was very gritty and perhaps the most physically difficult time he has batted in.. But honestly, thought he looked very shaky in that innings early on.. Unlike the Perth knock, where he was SO in control... And the same with the knock in Bloemfontein..

This is what Akram did to dravid just when Sachin had come in on that pitch -

YouTube - Rahul Dravid bowled superbly by Wasim Akram

When he came in ,the ball was swinging all over the place and bouncing very inconsistently plus wicket regularly falling on the other end.
Anybody even Bradman would have looked shaky in those conditions. It was a matter of gritting out and surviving ,that part.

But after he reached 40 odd and wickets were falling the attack he launched was devastating.
Just upped the ante and took control.

I did not see the perth knock live or in full, but i am sure the conditions were not as difficult as they were in Chennai plus the pressure of chasing the target and also a better bowling attack.

Yeah !!

India should have won both the matches, from the position he left them in.

3 of his best knocks the first Sharjah knock,175 and 136 were affected due to #### others screwing up left with a easy job.
Even the current knock in thr centurion match was a case of no support, though these days due to better support he has been able to play knocks like the one in Chennai against England.

AWTA. While I'm sure the Perth knock was a great one in terms of "laying down a marker for the future", an attack of McDermott/Hughes/Reiffel/Whitney would be classified as a good rather than a great one. It probably looked better because everyone else was so inept in those conditions back then.

Chennai 99 game still give me goosebumps was about to turn off the telly when Sachin holed out with 17 to get let out a big yelp when the catch was taken one of the best knocks ever that day.

lol.. 3 fifties and a 40 from the other batsmen, one of whom managed 90, juz 20 off Sachin and that counts as no support? :)

If you haven't seen it, don't say it.. I watched both knocks.. The chennai one live and it was NOT difficult batting there.. Difficult to score runs in, yes, to an extent but the attack with Wasim and Waqar well past their peaks and only Saqlain being threatening does not even compare to what he faced as an 18 year old in Perth.. It was a great and a gritty knock, made special more by the circumstances than for actual quality. For sheer batsmanship alone, Perth and Bloemfontein over any of his other knocks, for me... And the 116 in Melbourne was a bit of a masterclass but it was just so obviously in vain...

yeah, juz to clarify, all things considered, I do think the Chennai knock was amongst his best... Pressure, the team being so dependant on him, his own injury and stuff made it great... The point was that I wanted to talk about his best in terms of sheer batting talent and strokemaking on display and there, I think Perth and Bloemfontein are the best..

Not enough by a long way.. the first innings is a better example of it though.
lol.. what I meant was that he had more than enough support to get to his 100 and to get within striking distance of the deficit so that RSA could at least bat again.. Bad example to show for an innings played with no support.. The Perth knock that I am talking about or the 116 in Melbourne are a much better illustration.

It may not go down in the books as a great innings because it was a bore draw on a pretty flat wicket but I thought Tendulkar's 200 this year at the SSC was a very good and crucial knock in the context of the series.. just to get some momentum going our way in a series that SL were completely dominating at that stage. Remember we were still 400+ behind and 4 wickets down and the threat of follow-on was very much present.
