Yeah, Peter Nevill. Admittedly I've never seen him play, but he already has 2 centuries and a half century in 8 innings so he must be doing something right. No idea what he is like as a wicket keeper though. If Maddinson keeps playing like he is, he would be a good replacement for Hussey. Hussey is his idol apparently too.

Unless Hilditch goes, if I was to choose a future squad which I think will be closer to reality it would be:

Watson
Hughes
Clarke (C)
Khawaja
Ferguson
Smith
Paine
Hauritz
Johnson
Siddle/Bollinger
Hilfenhaus

Which looks like a no. 6 side in the world tbh...
You picked someone you've never seen play on the basis that he's made a couple of First Class hundreds ?

It's not what "I've picked". It was just a completely speculative view of what I think might be the team in the future.

Tough exercise to perform. Every new season brings a new wave of the 'next generation'. Last year it was the likes of Khawaja and Copeland, this year it's Maddinson and Lynn.

Good batsman will always come through. I think it is critical that our emerging pace bowlers like Starc, Pattinson, Hazlewood and George can keep fit.

Siddle's definitely a big part of Australia's future IMO. He may or may not be part of Australia's best four bowlers right now but he's yet to reach his peak. He's 26, averages 23 in Shield cricket (farrr better than everyone else in the Test squad) and has taken 67 Test wickets @ 32 - solid numbers in this day and age, especially since he's taken the vast majority of his wickets against the three best teams in the world. Not going to say he runs in all day and has heart - instead I'll point out that he's capable of bowling genuinely quickly, bowls an excellent line and moves the ball in the right conditions.

It's just a matter of time for him if he's handled well and doesn't break down with injury, IMO. I used to think he was a bit over-rated, but the comments on this forum throughout the whole summer have shown me otherwise. Fair enough to say you think Bollinger or Hilfenhaus or whoever are better right now but he's a good bowler - some of the comments on here would lead you to think he was a **** **** of the highest order being picked on nothing.

The young pace battery looks exciting. the incumbents might need to watch their backs. It looks like everyone outside of Johnson and Harris are struggling (aside from Siddle in Brisbane).

Splitting hairs now
Na it's not, it's a completely different thing. It's the difference between me thinking Nevill is a good player versus thinking he could be a good player. The latter is what I meant by including him in the (highly speculative) squad.

You obviously think somewhere along the line someone might consider him for selection, which is really the same thing, and you're talking in riddles, not to mention the riddle of "selecting" him to begin with, sight unseen.

I really don't care for continuing this conversation, because it was a completely speculative exercise in the first place.
