Ricky ponting should give up

U19 Cricketer
Hard to believe this is the same Ricky Ponting :(

Who in a 52 match (or 80 innings i.e. as much as bradman played) stretch scored more runs than any batsman other than bradman.

"Ricky Ponting, in a 52-test span between Test # 1595 (Saf vs Aus 15/03/2002) and Test # 1819 (Aus vs Eng 1/12/2006) accumulated 5853 runs at an average of 74.09 (90-11-5853-74.09-23 hundreds)"

Kinda sucks to see the greats fall.

Virat Kohli (c)
I always believe he shouldn't be compared to Lara or Tendulkar.
Who cares? Don't need to say this every time, far out.

I will blow my trumpet and say that I knew Ponting would never take over Sachin's total runs, and said so in 2007, simply because he was always the type of player that relied on reflexes and instinct. Age was always going to catch up to him.

Pretty good analysis, methinks.

Can you merge it with the 'Under the Lid' thread candy as well please, makes things easier for me

Will be interesting to see what happens if Australia win the Ashes but Ponting continues to struggle with the bat. At this point his place should be in question but if Australia win it's hard to see him being dropped.

True. If he wins the Ashes it is difficult to see how he can be dropped.
